It was so neat when I wanted to try out my electric canner that strawberries came on sale for 99 cents a quart (the sale was last Friday and Saturday at our Meijer). For some reason I was so nervous with this first time use but I read the directions and looked up youtube videos to watch to make myself more comfortable.
I now have 7 pints of jam in January to help fill my shelves.
My next project is canning pinto beans.
With the cold weather, we now have an extra fridge on our unheated porch. It came in real handy with all the strawberries we bought and keeping his pickled bologna cold. Last night, husband remembered the pop we had in the garage that we had leftover from the holidays and brought that in. It was well on it's way to freezing completely and that would have been a big mess! Can you imagine the noise it would have made exploding? LOL
We have been in the high teens and low 20's for about a week. The wind chill yesterday must have been bad but I refused to know. We haven't had a big snow just the cold.
How's everything were you live? I hope everyone is staying warm with the storms that have rolled in.

Oh, how neat, Vickie. I've always wanted an electric pressure canner. I would love to do beans in one too. Good thing you all thought to get that extra pop into the house, that would have been a mess!
I don't ever remember a winter this cold. It just never stops! I have tons of beans on hand because of $3/1 Luck's bean sales but I need to can some pork as soon as I see a sale. I have some new meat scissors I want to try out.
So glad he remembered it Belinda...man we would have thought it was an explosion for sure. Have a great day!
Lana, what a great deal on the Luck's beans! We haven't had winter like this in awhile so it's hard to get used to for sure. Have a great day!
And wow soft drinks are so expensive now that it would be awful to lose them.
A coworker left 2 24 packs of soda in the back of her van in January. They exploded all over the back of the van and created stalactites on her roof. Complete mess.
Quick thinking bringing in the soda! Nice on the jelly. Until just recently we have had a really decent winter - but now cold and snow. It is January - usually our worst month.
Cheryl, We haven't had winter in so long it's hard to get use to! Have a great day!
Oh my I can't imagine the mess Amy! We would have to wait till Spring to clean it up in the garage. So glad he remembered it.
Glad the soda was remembered. I am canning winter squash including pumpkin this month
Chef, it's the perfect time to can those for sure! have a great day!
Oh that strawberry jam looks so good! I've been wondering about those electric canners, and I'm glad to know that you have gotten good results.
We were without power for a couple of days due to the ice storm, and now we have about 5 inches of snow. Our driveway is still a sheet of ice, so I'm hoping it warms up soon.
Hope you have a great weekend.
