This Week in Our Home: The 100 day Sewing Challenge and Canning Beets

A neighbor gave the granddaughter a doll house a couple of weeks ago. Let me tell you I have some great neighbors!  I was so excited to receive it but quickly realized that she is a bit young for it yet. So we have decided to put it up till she is a little older. This gives me time to make the little things I think that are needed.

So far,  I've sown a mattress and pillow plus a sheet set for the bed (the furniture came with it). I  have also crocheted a blanket plus a rug to go along beside it.  Now I'm down to the table and chairs.   I'm thinking I'll make a table cover and chair pads.

This is helping me on my 100 day sewing challenge that I started with Patsy's blog.  I started making baby doll clothes and quickly became frustrated.  It had been so long since I had sown from a pattern that I had to quit.  I think right now with the garden that little things that I can do fast are my favorite projects.  Baby doll clothes will eventually be made probably in the fall or winter.

There is a slight lull in our green bean harvest so I've been finishing making the pickled beets. The husband loves them but frankly I think they taste like dirt.  It makes him happy so it's worth all the trouble though.

After my first beet canning session I decided it was easier to cook the beets in the slow cooker.  I didn't like having to babysit them till they became just right. This gives me time to do other things while they are cooking without the worry of burning them.  I came very close!

How's your week been going so far?
