Free Kindle Books for Today 4/22/21 Plus Celebrating Earth Day!

So, as I walked out to retrieve my recycling bin I thought a lot about this Earth Day 2021 and shook my head some.  You see the recycling wasn't picked up this week due to staffing shortages due to covid, so the bin was full.  In other words, there are not enough trashmen well enough to get the trash. It's very sad and I pray they all get better soon.

I know I've read a book or watched a movie like this sometime.  I remember seeing images of trash piling up and blowing around in cities. Very few people well enough to work or they are dying. It's very scary when books come to real life.

I know I've digressed away from my dilemma this Earth day so here it is.  What am I going to do with the recyclables?   I'll probably just leave what we have in the bin from last week but what to do with this weeks stuff?  What choices do I have?  Maybe I could somehow reduce the amount of things I'll need to recycle?  Yes, I certainly need to get on board with that one.  Maybe I could get a cardboard box and fill it up? I wonder then, how many boxes will I need?

On a more positive note, I hope to get out and help clean up the local riverbank on Saturday.  If anxiety hits and I get too uncomfortable with the whole group thing, I could just clean up around my local ponds/lakes.  Yes, that may be the answer!

Picture above is my cat and my bean harvest from my garden last year.  I just thought it was cute and look at what the earth gave to us!

How's it going in your neck of the woods?

What a sweet kitty! I'm sure you have been enjoying those beans this winter.
I'm sorry there has been such a spike in cases in Michigan, and I hope the numbers go down soon. I've seen some of those movies too with the trash piling up.
Hopefully we can each do what we can to help our earth.

Yes we need to do what we can. I think it's the get up and go I'm missing. Need more of that!

I think we're past the stomach virus. My dil went back to work late yesterday after my son tested negative for covid....we knew none of us had covid but his employer requires a negative result no matter the illness. That's why when I see the #s for those testing I don't stress as much. Many people in our area are having to test many times over for this reason.

Husband is going back to work today since he's confident he doesn't have the stomach virus. He stayed home yesterday so he wouldn't get sent home...then have to test.

We went through a few weeks where companies couldn't keep up because everyone was in quarantine....there were people with covid but each person with covid put so many others into quarantine. That may be part of the problem with the sanitation department in your area. I do hope you'll be able to open up soon. I really can't comprehend how hard it's been for many because we have never been in lock down. Staying home because I choose to seems much easier than staying home because I'm required to.

I'm so glad you all are well Jenny! I don't blame the employer on the testing part I guess it seems Covid has so many symptoms. I don't know how many people test here we just know the positive tests not the negative ones. I bet if we knew how many people tested it would be wild!
I like your thoughts that maybe so many people are in quarantine and I'm going to go with that. With sanitation workers working together like that it could very well be true. Maybe next week will be better for them. I think I'll try my box method and write on it recyclables. I hope they will be back on the run next week. I'll just go week by week and see what I can do.
It's really not a lockdown as it has been in previous months..restaurants and bars are open but at limited capacity. Like you I'm staying at home though.

A newspaper reporter took a picture of a young girl on to of the "mountain" for trash. Her mother had allowed her to be put there. Story was she was called trash girl after that. The picture was to show how bad things. I can't remember what city but it was during a strike. I always wondered where the mother's head was at. I wouldn't let my kids play in the trash, why put one of them on top of it for a photo.

We do more of REFUSE and REUSE than recycle.... It's been 2 months since we did drop off (no pick up in country) and the can is just about full.

I can't imagine doing that to the child either. She just wasn't thinking I guess.

It seems like we generate more trash than ever before. The grandkids are here more with the pandemic but I really need to start watching it.
