Sewing, Gardening, and Grocery Shopping Lessons 2/23/24!

This week I made a couple of bowl covers.  Why two?   Well the first one didn't fit ha ha.   There is a sewing tutorial for bowls covers by Jane on the Bluebirds are Nesting blog and a thankyou to Rhonda at If you do stuff, stuff gets done who gave me the idea to use a pizza pan for the pattern.

I started some seeds the previous week or so.  I'm so over winter and excited for Spring. Even if it's too early, this made me happy.  Cabbages and pepper plants were started.  Yesterday, I started a few tomato plants.  I hope to plant some flower seeds soon but I need a bigger space.

Yesterday, I went to Meijer real quick in the morning.

My green pepper was free (MPERKS)  (reg.99)

3 Prego Spaghetti Sauces $1.33 each for 3 and one at $1.55 after sales and coupons

Bananas $1.32

4 chicken noodle soups $1.00 each after coupons

2 Tomatoes-$2.82

**I succumbed to a cold pop in the freezer and made a promise to never do that again.  At the awful price of $2.45 plus .10 for bottle refund I could have survived without one.  I need more willpower!

two Little Debbie cake boxes for $2.79 (request from grand kids)

2 gallons of milk $2.78 each

2 half and half $2.99 each qt

$32.70

This was just for the sale items and other things we needed.  Money goes fast!

  1. The bowl cover is pretty. Those cold bottles of pop are just outrageous in price.
    Have a good weekend.

  2. I want to make a bowl cover, too. I just have to do it! Those cold drinks call my name too especially in the summer. I was just three years ago when I could go to Aldi and buy all my produce, milk, eggs and staple foods for $45 every ten days or so. I cannot even imagine that now.

  3. I read about the bowl covers on her blog this week too, it seems like a very easy project to do and perfect for one of those bowls you have with no lid. Good deal at the grocery store too for you. Your milk is much cheaper than our milk is these days. I did get some ground beef and chicken leg quarters on sale this week.

  4. Oh I love your bowl cover; the fabric is gorgeous.
I'm ready for spring, and I'm wanting to start some seeds too, although it may be a little early. Hopefully I can rein in my grocery spending a bit.
    Have a great weekend.

  7. Belinda, Our Meijer milk has been that for quite a while but they also carry a much more expensive brand. I got some of that on Flashfood (it wasn't outdated) and thought I'll try it to see what the difference was. No difference!

  8. Thanks Kathy, I'm promised myself yesterday that I would slow down on the seed starting! I just want to have my garden already! I'll calm down though.
Grocery shopping is getting like a job..find the coupons and find the deals and you will pay the same amount or a little more than you did before all this started ha ha. I'm just glad it's available!
    Have a good weekend!

  9. I can't believe how little your half and half costs! Here, Florida, it is easily almost $5 for a half gallon. Don't drink milk, but it is outrageous too.
Love the bowl covers. I need to pull out my sewing machine again.

  10. Barbara, Don't worry that was for a quart...I should have said so! I'll change it. Now umm we pay more than you!
Sewing is very satisfying! Well the uncomplicated things are!
