This week the rain has slowed down some and we had a few nice sunny days. This picture was took when I let the cat in the porch yesterday morning just as the sun was coming up. It was a beautiful start to the day.
Here are the ways I've saved this week:
Taking care of our house windows has been our big home improvement for the year. We have replaced the glass on the top three huge front picture windows instead of getting replacement windows (seals were broke). This week we have been getting estimates on completely replacing two more windows. Both estimates came up to the same price..to the penny. We plan on getting one more estimate but so far we are amazed at the cost of labor. We might just have to learn how to install the windows our self.
We also got estimates and then replaced our well pump this week before it went completely out. Both of these are major expenses but we saved and planned for them.
After we went to the zoo and found that the grandson really liked taking pictures, we have been thinking about getting a camera for him. We were so happy when we found a great starter camera at a garage sale for $3.00. It was like new. It was the last day of their sale and they wanted rid of it. I think many people just like using their phones.
I also found some great like new t shirts and husband found a coat at other garage sales. I just love this time of year.
I went to Kroger and bought the Friday and Saturday deals. I bought 5 pounds of butter for $1.99 and used two coupons for .40 cents off they sent me in the mail. I also picked up the Free Friday deal (water), Kroger cheese, and 5 jars of Prego for .99 each.
I filled out the Kroger survey to receive more fuel bonus points.
I made low carb english muffins and cookies for the kids this morning (cookies are in the oven).
Goals:
Buy and plant some flowers. Hopefully we will get to plow our garden soon.
Get back to posting my grocery deals on Saturday.
What are the ways you saved this past week?

Beautiful rainbow - they always make me smile.
The Lord always provides. How neat that you thought camera for gs and there it was so cheaply!
Have a good week.
It was so pretty and unexpected. I love rainbows too Cheryl!
Great find on the camera. Digital has made it so much easier to learn to take good pictures.
We bought 5 bottles of Palmolive natural dish soap at Walmart for $2.52 each and then turned in a $1 rebate on each to iBotta. They are big 32 ounce bottles. Lowe's has 6 pack annuals for 99 cents and veggies for 4/$10. I got 4 pots of tomato plants and looked for ones with multiple plants. I ended up with 9 plants which I divided onto more pots to allow them to re-establish their roots. They have taken off and are even putting on blooms. Next week when we are home from the lake I will get them planted in my big tomato pots on my deck. In the meantime I am glad to be finally getting my veggies going even if we do have to carry them home next weekend.
I do miss our Lowe's Lana. Such good deals and I love how you thought of looking for multiple plants. You will have a great garden this year!
I haven't shared in awhile but here's what I can remember.
-Eating all our meals at home. DH had a very bad diabetic check-up so we are just eating at home. Eating out is almost impossible to enjoy with diabetes. There are so many hidden carbs when someone else is cooking.
-Happily, the V-Go patches dh wears for diabetes dropped from $80 a month to $30! His dr found us a new coupon we can use for awhile.
-I've been cutting bouquets like a crazy person this spring. I've had as many as 10 bouquets around the house at once. I absolutely love flowers & arranging them is one of the most fun things for me. (I'm on Instagram by the way, if you'd like to see them. jennylovescharlie is my account name) After making a fresh bouquet or two yesterday, DH asked me how they would have cost to buy. I would think at least a few hundred at the flower shop.
-I made a water table from an old plastic storage bin for my grandson. He plays with it on the screened porch as much as I will let him. It's still been too cold to use it much...crazy for us this time of year.
- A friend gave me a huge bag of clothes I got some really nice new blouses, cardigan sweaters & a skirt.
-At book club I was given three fun magazines to enjoy then pass on.
None of the following shopping sales were really cheap like I enjoy but I rarely shop for these things & was happy to find them on sale.
-I needed church shoes & went to Shoe Carnival during their buy one get one half off sale & found two pair. Then I found a third pair at Marshall's for $30 less than Shoe Carnival. I usually don't keep many shoes at all but I've had such a hard time with my feet in the past few years. So when I find a pair that work I buy them.
-I found a bottle of Torani sugar-free syrup at Home Goods for $8 less than full price at the grocer. I just don't buy this full price but I do grab them when I find them like this. Home Goods, Gordmann's World Market & TJ Maxx all carry them occasionally.
-I bought some clothes for my grandson at TJ Max on sale.
-I also bought dog chews(two kinds, one for each dog) & Walker shortbread for husband.
Hi Vickie you did really well for the week and yes there comes a time for expensive maintenance sometimes but well worth it to keep things running smoothly and well. Glad you found some like new t-shirts and a coat for your husband and a like new camera for your grandson who I hope loves and uses it to take many lovely photos with.
This weeks goal for us is to set up and fill with amended soil 6 above ground garden beds and set up the drip irrigation systems.
Been a busy gardening week here this week tilling up the garden beds and getting amendments for the soil here for the raised garden beds.
Our savings last week added up to $374.47 :).
Internet listings -
- Listed 10 items on a free listing promotion saving $16.50 on usual listing fees.
Purchases -
- Bought an RACQ e-gift card to cover fuel and groceries for the coming weeks saving 5% or $12.55 in total.
In the kitchen -
- Made 3 loaves of bread in the bread making machine saving $10.47 over purchasing them in the stores.
In the gardens -
- Our neighbour who is selling her property :( , gave us 4 dwarf apple trees in pots saving $128 over buying them.
- Picked up 3/4's of a cubic metre of cow manure from a friends farm free saving $ 206.95 over buying it in bags from the local hardware store.
- DH dug 3 garden beds with the rotary hoe and together we shoveled and removed lots of wheel barrows full of soil to add amendments to via wheel barrow. I cut and added weed mat and composted grass clippings to the bottom of two garden to prevent weeds.
Hope everyone else had a wonderful week also.

Your right those hidden carbs are unbelievable. I found out that even shredded cheese has a carb in it so I shred my own. I'm glad he found a deal on his medicine. I've heard the diabetic meds are very high. I loved that the doc found a coupon too..he is looking out for his patients.
I'll follow you on instagram Jenny. I can't wait to see your bouquets. You had a great week!
Lorna, I love that your neighbor gave you those apple trees. I love the smaller ones myself, so much easier to manage. I hope soon we will be able to garden more like you but today I got my rain barrel filled up a little more, ha ha.
You did so well with saving this past week. Your property, I bet, is looking so good with all that hard work. Have a great day!
