We left out early yesterday morning and took a trip to the Amish store to help stock up the freezer.  We needed to leave early and get back so I could hold grandma's school.

First thing I noticed was that they have a cart cleaning station.  I didn't see it in working order but the store was just opening.  I could see the spray and wipes on the pedestal though.

When we walked in the door, I was so glad to see that 95% of the people were wearing masks!   I think the message is getting out there.

Then you come in the door and round the corner then the meat section is right there.  There wasn't any pork chops or pork sausage.  We were able to buy chicken, hamburger, and some ham.  The chicken was $1.49 a pound for boneless chicken breasts which is a great deal for here.  There were no limits except for your wallet.

I also bought whoopie pies, cereal, hamburger and hotdog buns, strawberries,  and bananas.  How good it felt to pick out my own bananas!

Please leave a comment and let me know how it's going in your neck of the woods.

Hi Vickie, It sounds like you had a good trip to the Amish store. Our neighbor picked up a few things at the grocery stores for us. I was thankful and surprised that she found the London broil I wanted from the sale ad for $2.99 a pound. I would have bought more if I had been shopping, but am grateful for her help. Meats are still available here in AZ, limited more by what we can afford. After an unusually cool start to the spring, the heat is here with a high 104 predicted for today. I've been planting and transplanting, hoping to get more food to use and share. My husband has been working to make sure everything, including garden containers gets water. Have a good day!

Amish buggies just make me happy! Glad you got some deals and a nice ride, too!

Your neighbor is so nice Mrs. Gilliam. That does sound like a great deal on London Broil.
Oh man it sounds like a scorcher in your area. It's a job to water everything! Have a great day.

Oh I am so tired of not being able to pick out my own produce. I've been trying to go to Aldi to do that because they just don't seem to be as full & more people seem to wear masks in Aldi for some reason....at Walmart the vast majority do not wear masks at all.

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

Your right...It was Wal-Mart that my daughter told me that not many people wear masks. I hope you are able to go soon.

I have not been inside a store since Mar 17. I have not made myself a mask yet but I plan to.
I think some people like them and some don't and they might go to the stores where most people so what they like. Just a thought.
I agree - I would love to pick out my own meat. We have an Aldi's here but I have not been there since I used to shop for my mom before she passed away. She always shopping there and like the prices. She said there were always a few things she had to find a Kroger.

Debbie, I understand about not wanting to go to a store. We probably won't go back again for quite awhile. I like the pickups don't you?
Aldis is my favorite store but Kroger has the pickup option. Sorry to hear about your mom's passing.

We have had some great deals on BLSLCB ( boneless, skin less chicken breasts) at .99 a pound,at the Piggly Wiggly has had them on sale for 2 weeks now, limit 3 packs and they are huge 1/2 breast is almost a pound, hubby got max both weeks. Not sure whats going on with the meat issue. We have a meat packing plant less than a mile from our home and last week 600 hundred people tested positive for the virus. We need to get a small chest freezer A.S.P. Today I pulled a ham bone from the freezer and 2 pounds of peas from the pantry and made a wonderful split pea and ham soup, nothing better than a hot soup and fresh bread on a cold rainy day.Thank you for the books.

Tealady what a deal on chicken breast! I would stock up too at that price. We just bought enough to get us through awhile till we get brave enough to go again to the store haha. I wish we were able to get your deal!
Your soup sounds delicious!

Vicki this past Monday was the first time I left the house since March 12, except my quick trip to the ER. The soup is wonderful and it's all mine. hubs won't eat peas. His loss.

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

Yep I know I would love your soup but my Husband won't eat pea soup either. That don't know what they are missing!

Great deals! Wish we lived close to an Amish store.
I haven't been able to buy any beef for a month, so hubby and I decided to buy a quarter of a cow. It's a first for us, but will hopefully be worth it.

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

It will be worth it Kathy! I know that we will get to that too if the times keep going like this. We will just need to find a farmer.
