These are the sunflower seeds I saved from 2012. They grew quite tall. ..might have been because they were by the Hen House! |
We needed to go back to the greenhouse to buy more marigolds and beet seeds. I decided before we left that I had enough marigolds to hopefully ward off some of those rabbits. I decided to plant sunflower seeds that I had saved instead. I hope they grow as large as the one in the picture.
I also found two packets of beet seeds in my seed stash. That's was enough for two long rows of beets. Time and money saved!
Our vegetable garden was completely planted by Tuesday or Wednesday...it's all a blur now! We've received a lot of rain this weekend to help it along.
One of my weaknesses are tomato plants. I love to buy as many varieties as I can. This year I kind of went wild and bought more tomatoes than I had cages to support them. Even though there are other ways to support tomatoes, cages remain my favorite. When I ran out I decided to use bamboo sticks that had broken to support them instead of buying more cages.
Then I was blessed yesterday when I was able to buy 12 tomato cages for $4.00 and more bamboo sticks for my green beans next year! I'm not sure of the price of the bamboo sticks my husband put them in a bundle (he has been watching The Pickers..).
We had a great Memorial Weekend and I hope you did too. We made enough food on the grill to last for a few days. It was nice not to have to cook while I was busy planting the garden.
I had two coupons for $10 off 10 at JCPenney this past week. I bought a shower curtain and 2 new blouses for me. I spent approximately $10 total.
I bought 4 more summer blouses for me at a garage sale for $6.00.
What ways have you saved this week?
