My Frugal Ways this Past Week 6/23/19!

It's a beautiful day here with the promise of lots of sun until some rain comes in tonight.   The best thing that has happened in my garden this week are my blooming roses!   They put a smile on my face every time I go by.

Here are the ways I've saved this past week:

The kids received a free drink at Biggby Coffee from the library when they registered for the summer reading program.  I found the coupon at the bottom of the bag, so we used it this past week.  They each got a cup filled to the top with reddi whip with sprinkles, which they thought was the best think ever.

We sold an item on Facebook.  I think we have finally sold all the big items after clearing out half the garage.

I made a loom knit hat.  Well I made a couple ...still working on perfection. I used a 50% off coupon to buy the looms at Joanne's.

I bought strawberries at Meijer for a great deal this past week.  You can see that post here.  I've made strawberry jelly yesterday and Strawberry muffins this morning for breakfast.

Vegetable Garden Update:

The garden is still very wet.   We've had three days of some sunshine and no rain, so maybe it can be saved.  There is hope!  Both the white half runner and rattlesnake green bean seed came up, which was a big surprise to us.   We just knew all the seeds were already rotted.  There is no sign of the potato plants or beets yet.   With the fear of sinking and never getting out, I'm not able to step in the garden right now so the weeds are rampant.

The deer have found the corn.   I just planted a few plants from the greenhouse for fun.  They took off most of the tops. They also took off the tops of half a row of green beans.

I harvested lettuce and green onions from the grow bag.  I also used some rosemary, thyme, and chives from the herb garden for cooking this past week.

My goals for this week:

Start making crafts for the fair.

Post two book reviews (catching up)

Your roses are gorgeous! I am glad to hear that you are drying out and hopefully seeing some success with the garden.

Thanks Lana, the roses are planted under the bedroom window so we are able to smell the fragrance inside. Have a great day!

The deer ate every single apple off our apple tree. They've done that for years but I really thought I might get some this year. I wonder if I put bird netting over the tree if that would keep them out?

We ate out a lot this week, plus went to see Le Miserable live at the Walton Arts Center. Then I went to lunch with a friend in a town 30 miles away because we wanted Greek food...so this was a week of splurges.

I did buy strawberries for .88 a pack & bananas for .29 a pound,,,both very good prices for my area.

I picked a few more tomatoes from my hidden tomato plant. Hopefully we can keep nibbling on them without the squirrels discovering them.

My daughter-in-law & i went to the Farmer's market yesterday (where I spent way too much money on things I did not need). The local rodeo is on & we just happened to pull up just as the parade started. So we stopped to watch with our grandson. He got a succor, which he ate, a freeze pop, which we tossed because he didn't know what to do with it....& two tokens. One for a free ice cream cone at a local dairy bar & one for a free taco at the local food truck. So that was fun.

I love roses! Beautiful! Today, we had great savings at Publix. They are accepting competitor coupons so we had $10 off our $50 order. Also, bought a clothes steamer at Bed Bath and Beyond and saved $10. Every little bit of savings helps.

Oh no Jenny..I tried netting on my apple tree and it would come off. Maybe though with help you could do it. Those deer! So you his tomato plant from the animals? Isn't that something.
Sounds like you had a great time at the Farmers Market. Have a great night.
