My Frugal Ways this Past Week 9/1/19!

We had a wonderful tea party this week with the granddaughter.  Everyone that walked by had to participate, Pop, brother, and cats.
Before the tea party we made homemade copycat Lofthouse cookies.  We frosted them with purple and pink icing.

Husband sold the tires we had extra to a used tire store.

I bought the holiday deals at the grocery store last night.  Many of them last through Monday.

I made yogurt.

I won tickets for everyone to a big craft fair and festival in Detroit. They also sent me cups and pens.

I've been harvesting tomatoes and onions this week out of the backyard garden.  I still have purple onions left out there but they were not ready yet.

Goals

My goals for this next week are the same as last.  We had a great time with the grandchildren and I just didn't get finished.

Make up mixes for waffles.

Clean out refrigerator (man I hate this job)-  I cleaned out three shelves last week (they were the main ones you look at when you open the refrigerator).

Have a fun and save Labor Day everyone!

What a fun party!

My list this week.
Goodwill - I've been doing a quick run through every time I go to town in hopes of finding a Sizzix die cutter. If I don't find one by Black Friday I'm hoping to find one on sale then.
I love dishes & couldn't pass up a Johnson Brothers saucer for $1.11 It's Friendly Village theme & my saucer is 'The Ice House'. I'll enjoy using it in my fall decor.

Potter's House - a local thrift shop.
I found some marked down new dish towels, 3 towels & one vintage linen napkin for .96. The towels are white linen with a red stripe French towels. I plan to use the napkin for embroidery.

My friend who always gives me clothes had a large garbage bag for me to go through this week. I kept almost all of it.
-1 pair of Lee jeans & Jones NY knee length shorts.
-2 pairs of Avenue capris & an Avenue blouse
-4 J. Jill blouses plus 4 other name brand blouses.
All of these came from a cousin who is single & loves to shop so the clothes are nicer than she usually finds & I love that almost all of the blouses are long.

I had a free Chic-fil-A lunch. I went shopping with some friends & one friend wanted to buy all of our lunches. She's been through a horrific few years with her husband who passed away last spring & she wanted to do something for all of us who've been there for her through it all.

A free gourmet cookie..small but a beautiful cookie & really yummy. Made by my daughter-in-law in a cookie decorating class she took.

A free single-serve Little Debbie pound cake. My husband got the sample at work....a new product..he can't eat those so he brings his samples home to me.

A free library card....I used to have to pay for our library cards. I had let mine expire but decided to get one this week so I could start taking my grandson & discovered they no longer charge! Super happy about that.

And I won a $20 gift card to 'Once Upon a Time books' a local used bookstore. They're online as well if you are looking for something specific. So I went through my book list & ordered quite a few. I'll pick them up this week to save on shipping.

Those holiday deals and always try to get out and get them. Sometimes like last night I had to make myself but I rolled!

My biggest savings this week was about a $100.00, I went grocery shopping with my husband and didn't let him out of my sight for one minute! We went to a few garage sales and I got two brand new in the box set of 4 Christmas dishes for $5.00 and for a $1.00 more anything we could carry out, they were closing and just wanted to get rid of stuff. Too many things to mention.Today hubby stopped at a veggie stand and bought 4 large tomatoes and 4 pears for .25 cents each, both are delicious. Happy Labor day.

What a fun tea party! I hate cleaning the fridge too. Each time I finally do it, I tell myself how great it looks, and that I'm going to keep it that way. LOL I'm kidding myself every time!

Wow I love that savings at the veggie stand. I find that's my cheapest source for veggies too if I can find one.
I love that you didn't lose husband at the grocery store..than can be dangerous ha ha!

Oh my goodness you are so right. I look at the those shelves and think how nice they look. Makes me think I should do the rest right now. I'll put it off as long as possible LOL!

Hi Vickie and your granddaughter looks so happy with her tea party and I remember loving them at her age too. We used to make mud pies but of course didn't eat them :). Good deals you got for groceries too and it always pays to pick up the specials.

This weeks goal (it's spring) is to plant silverbeet, tomatoes, capsicum and turnip seeds in the gardens.

Our Vicky challenge added up to $362.09 in savings last week :).

In the kitchen -
- Cooked all meals from scratch.

Bargain grocery & medical -
- Purchased a grocery e-gift card from RACQ saving 5% or giving us $13.89 in free groceries.
- Topped up on an additional carton of full cream powdered milk and a carton of baking choc chips for additional food storage.
- Picked up 2 x 2 lt bottles of orange juice on clearance for $2.50 each saving $5.
- Purchased 4 x 6pk of wholemeal and white bread rolls on clearance saving $3 on usual prices.
- At IGA on clearance I purchased a 2.134 kg pork shoulder roast for $8.54 saving $8.53 on usual prices. We have had one roast meal, a pork and vegetable pie, and two luches working out at just near on .85c per meal for each of us.
- While at the op shop they were giving away a huge trolley load of red capsicum so we brought home 5 large ones weighing about 2 kg saving $15.80 over purchasing them. We diced them and put them in 7 meal sized sized portions for the freezer.
- Got DH's pain medication for a few months on a bulk script saving $71.50 over buying them per box on prescription. I also got 5 months worth of my medication to save trips into town to fill scripts.

Op shop and new clothing bargains -
- From an op shop I picked up new with tags a pair of jeans & a pair of 50 + hard yakka work jeans, near new pair of jag jeans, a zip up tracksuit top, a pair of cotton capris and a wool jacket all for $5 bargain. The hard yakka work pants new are $50 - $65 ea new in other stores.
- As my track pants and tops are near worn out from Millers on end of season clearance and for $10 ea I purchased 3 pairs of track pants and tops, and two waterproof long padded jackets. The jackets alone in other stores are $60 - $80 ea at normal prices.

Ebay Listings -
- Listed 19 items on a free listing promotion saving $31.35 on usual listing fees.

In the gardens -
- DH put the heavy duty chicken wire on the front of the garden beds and made gates by using star pickets with wire so we can fold back the wire to plant and till. It is now covered in wire, kangaroo proof and ready to plant.
- I went through our saved and purchased vegetable seeds and found we only needed to purchase heirloom bean and corn seeds which I ordered on eBay.
- I can't wait to get my hands in some dirt, get outside and plant things in the gardens as I have not been allowed out in the sun until my face is healed more from the cancer cream treatment :).
- Used grey water pumped from our grey water tank to water fruit, berry and ornamental flower gardens.
- Used saved rain water from recent showers from runoff from our tank shed roof to water potted plants and herbs.

We still need lots of rain here as the local farmers are having to put down starving kangaroos, so sad :( , and most homes are out of rainwater and need water to fill their dams to water stock.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful week :).

That is so sad about the kangaroos. I pray and hope that you get a great downpour soon.
I can imagine how much you want to be in the sun. Spring is so beautiful and you will be soon. I'm so glad that your treatment is working. Have a great day Lorna.

What a sweet tea party- your guests were adorable. :) My frugal accomplishment this week- was I went to the store with my mom and stuck to my list. I ignored all of the chocolate goodies that wanted to come home with me.

That candy isle is the worst! I'm glad you stuck to your list Evie!
