Organizing and Cleaning my Catch all Closet: Before and After

I guess you can call this closet my catch all closet.   This closet can hold presents, food, my dress clothes, and coffee makers (we don't have a basement).  Yes,  it's my catch all closet for sure.  Today I decided to clean it when I realized it looked like this!  Apparently we have just thrown things in there without a thought.  To make matters worse we also have a little boy, girl, and cat who love to hide in there too!

I started with the food and decided to just keep going.  Oh, how I wanted to quit!

Who knew I had five maple syrups?   I also found some more shelf stable milk that was on it's last few days, so that led to this.

Now my yogurt is made for the week!

Then I found a purse...it's kind of Spring looking for the winter but my purse I carry has a broken zipper.   I even found some money for my piggy bank!

So here is the before again:

Then the after:

Finally a couple of hours later I'm done. It's still a catchall closet but we now can walk through it and find something!  Now on to that spice cabinet I've got on my goal list for the week.  Maybe tomorrow.

I love Spring cleaning in the winter.  Have you started?

Your catch all closet looks great, Vicky! Yes,I've been doing some cleaning, too! I have cleaned and organized the "big" pantry and the laundry area. I still need to do my daughter's closet which is kind of my catch all closet, just no food in there. I've also decluttered my kitchen utensils and organized the kitchen drawers. Always more to do!

So much to do Jennilee! I'm glad I started now. I want to be outdoors when Spring comes.

Hi Vickie, What is the brand of your yogurt maker and where did you find dit? I don't eat as much yogurt as you but wondered if I could just put a couple of those cups in and make part of a recipe or do I have to use all the cups when using it? Thanks. Nancy

I bought it at a sale a couple of years ago. I really don't remember the exact price but it was $5 or under. Before that I used my crockpot to make yogurt. It says saltron on the cups. I think it's an older model.

Great spring cleaning. :-) We donated so many items when we moved last September. I don't have many things to go through but will still be checking the boxes of seasonal clothing. :-)

Great job on your catch-all closet! I'm working on my clothes (and everything else) closet. I finished one side and I'm working on the other. I got rid of some small exercise equipment--like 2-pound weights (too heavy for me now) and a handful of pedometers--none of which I ever had any faith in. I cleaned through a leather bag that we used for our portable medicine cabinet years ago, when we traveled (before my husband passed). The big surprise in the leather bag was a tiny coin purse with 3 bills in it--what fun to find!

Hi Vickie and it looks wonderful and I can see the effort you have put into spring cleaning in there.

With the drought dust we have been going through room by room and deep cleaning but for us it is a summer spring clean :).

So far I have deep cleaned the bedroom, rumpus room and downstairs bathroom and damp dusted everything and spot cleaned walls. Need to do the laundry on that level but just a quick damp dust and a bit of a vacuum should do it.

We haven't moved in quite awhile so things build up for sure! That's exactly how I use to control clutter too when we were moving a lot in our younger years. Have a great day.

Oh man that's a lot of work Lorna! A fresher home after all that dust will be wonderful i bet! Stay cool.

Kay I found money too in our emergency bag I had forgotten about! We are now $50 dollars richer! That's so fun isn't it? Well worth the cleaning for sure.

We lived in a house without clothes closets once and that was tough. We had a chefrobe for our little girls clothes and just made do. I guess we had less to clean that way.

Oh how much easier it is to find things when we're organized. Staying organized is the problem.

so true Jenny ..the more people that use the space the quicker it becomes unorganized!
