I made some homemade bread yesterday and it was delicious.   This was made in my bread machine..it's still home made right?   My slicing abilities need a little work but I'll get it eventually.  I'm craving french toast for breakfast this morning.

What I'm Missing this Time of Year

Even though it's freezing this morning here in our part of Michigan (27 degrees this morning), I know that this time of year garage sales begin.  I always think about the 15th of April and get excited to get going.  I guess that won't be happening for awhile.  Probably a long while.

No curbside picking either.  We've seen a lot of stuff beside the road and we've made it a rule no matter how good, we won't be picking up anything for quite awhile.  Just the thoughts of virus germs all over it,  is enough to stop us in our tracks.

You know, other people have no qualms about it at all.  We've seen them picking up stuff along the curb as we drove to our errands.  They had gloves on of course, but I still can't do it.

I wonder how long it will be, when things go back to normal, before I go to a garage sale without freaking out?

Please leave a comment and let me know how it's going in your neck of the woods.

Yes, bread you make at home is home made, even in a ABM
I bet you’ll have delicious French toast

I've made our bread for decades and slicing always the challenge. Rhonda at Down to Earth uses this. I've never had a moment's regret paying for it!

Enjoy your bread. It looks scrumptious!

Good Morning! Thank you for keeping your blog going! I enjoy it so much and have found many interesting books through it. Your bread looks delicious. It's definitely homemade 😀. I also enjoy hearing about your life in Michigan. Our climate in central AZ is so different. I luved in Michigan until I was 11 and still have family there. Although we live in a large metropolitan area, we do have a big back yard which we enjoy. I'm planting more than ever and still thinking what I might add to my container garden. The flowers and veggies give us joy. The stores are beginning to be better stocked again. At least that's what I hear and am finding when I look on their websites. Prices are going up, as well, though. I've gone from stalking the deals and coupons to just being glad to be able to find things. My pantry and freezer are pretty well stocked so we can go quite a while eating from them, but are enjoying getting fresh fruits and veggies and dairy along with replenishing things like meats. We miss seeing our children and grandchildren, but are thankful for the technology to visit online.Glad to be able to have church through Zoom, Facebook, etc.Hope you have a good day! Elaine

Yes! Bread machines make homemade bread :) and there is an art to making good bread in the machine as far as I am concerned. My husband does all the bread machine baking here and makes way better bread than I do!

I do miss going to thrift shops...so very much. My local thrift shops are listing a few things on Facebook or Instagram. You can buy then do curbside pick up. I also joined a few Facebook thrifting groups just for the socializing....everyone is sharing their thrifting finds from the past to try to help each other fill the void. If you have time or energy maybe you could do a few posts? A thrifted table setting or centerpiece or a junk garden planting later this spring? Like you have so much free time right?! Ha!

Your bread looks so good! When I was making it in my bread machine I just used the dough cycle then put it in a loaf pan for the last rise & baked it in the oven. That way I could get that traditional shape. My machine made tall square loaves. My daughter-in-law stress bakes & she has been filling me with cinnamon rolls, scones, cookies....goodness it's all so good! She cannot keep up with her farmer's market orders & has had to set limits on how much she will bake each week.

One fun thing we did yesterday was get take out from Rib Crib...it was my birthday. They took our order over the phone & brought it to our car wearing gloves & a mask. Oh it was so nice to have such a good meal with no cooking!

I've used my meat slicer. I have 2 different blades for it.
We have a few rolls left so I won't make bread for a couple days. We aren't much of loaf bread eaters.

I started going through my seeds and found some lacking for the winter green house. Had to order them from Amazon. Went through The Prudent Homemaker's site so she could get a few cents off the order.

The technology is amazing and such a blessing. I saw my sister on face time this past Easter Sunday from out of state. We talk but to see her face is so nice.
I have never spent so much on groceries either can't wait to

I'm able to save again.
Thanks for stopping by and I'm so glad you find some booksm

Glad you got seeds and I'm sure you were a blessing to The Prudent homemaker. I'm sure she will love that.

The recipes that came with the machine were not that good but I have found this one and I'm going to try another soon. There is an art for sure Lana!

Hugs, I know you are in a State with strict rules for Stay At Home. I understand your fear. It will be a couple of years before things get back to normal or when we get a vaccine. It's like I have been telling people it will take at least three years to vaccinate the world. Large world economies like ours will be first. By that time we will all be used to a new normal.

I miss thrifting and I miss the library. I miss the library so, so, so much. We have drive through library in my area. I hope by Summer that can be implemented again.

I have been leaving things curbside. I had to replace appliances due to flooding from damage from last year. The day I picked out my new appliances was when WHO declared COVID a pandemic. Terrible timing.

My DH put out our old washer that day with a free sign, It still worked but needed lots of work. We saw a car and truck pull up. The lady got out of the car and the men were helping her with the washer. She was actually crying she was so happy to get a washer. That meant the world to my DH & I. Then the next week we put out our dishwasher. Somebody was so excited to get it. This is a working class poor area so DH & I are doing curbside with the things we don't want. People are truly grateful.

Oh I love that your a blessing to your neighbors! I bet it does feel good!
The library is such a great resource, I don't blame you for missing it.
I didn't think how long it would take to vaccinate. Well get there!
