If your child or grandchildren are getting school lunches at home, the amount of food coming in all at once,  can be overwhelming.  Especially if you get them once or twice a week.

Here are some suggestions on how to make sure none of that food goes to waste:

Strawberries in the snack size cup.

Put in yogurt.

Use in oatmeal to flavor and sweeten.

Eat as is.

Use to make jam for their pb and j sandwiches.

Applesauce in the snack size cup.

Eat as is.

Freeze them.

Use for muffins.

Can it so you can use later.

Sandwiches

I always freeze the sandwiches for later right away.

Milk (chocolate and regular)

If you getting the small little chocolate milks in the cardboard cartons we have been successful at freezing them.

The half gallon plastic carton are also great to freeze.  We take a little bit off the top and then freeze.

Muffins, bags of snack sized donuts,  and other snacks

We leave them in a bowl on the counter so they can help themselves at snack time.

The little boxes of raisins

Freeze them for longer storage.

Use them for recipes.

Put them in the snack bowl.

Grape and orange juice

Grape juice makes  great popsicles.  I have this popsicle Mold.  It's very easy to release the popsicle out of the mold.

Make sure to offer them to drink!

Hope these suggestions help someone.  If you have more ideas let me know in the comments.

Here in SC they are giving a $300 EBT credit per child since that is what they figure it costs to feed each one. I hope they expand this so that you have more choices. You have great ideas for using the lunches.

Those are great tips! You can also freeze the little apple sauce cups for later too.

Great tips!
Our schools started back on a hybrid schedule last week. Hope it works out for the kids.

We got (for one child/6 days) 1litre of skimmed milk, 1 big cucumber, 1 tub of spread, a packet of crisp rye bread, 5 microwave meals (chicken+rice, pasta casserole, creamy salmon soup, hash with bacon bits, and something I can't remember) a tin of split pea soup, a banana, an apple, a pear, an orange and a big tomato. So at least one fresh vegetable/fruit per day, a glass of milk per day, a hot meal with bread per day. I thought it was nice and decent - they had two days to get and pack everything ( our school was temporarily closed because of covid19 infection so no-one was prepared).

That was very nice bunch of food...the schools have went above and beyond I think. They have stepped up and figured everything out really quick.
