Recipe for Mom's Chocolate Gravy

Mom was one of those people who didn't need a recipe. I think she just had cooked so long that when I came along she had it memorized.  Without a recipe though I was lost and all I wanted as a young cook, was to know how to make our favorite recipe growing up, Chocolate Gravy and she couldn't give me the exact measurements.  Listen it was vital that I know, so I could make it for my newly wedded Husband.  I just knew he would fall in love with it and I would have a pal to enjoy it with.

Well, I got lucky one Saturday morning as I was visiting and Dad hollered, Louise make me some chocolate gravy.  Music to my ears (I'm not so sure it was to hers)!  Well,  anyway as she cooked, I told her she had to measure everything.  I think I drove her crazy (ha ha) but I got it.

Husband hates it.  No, really he won't eat it..not a bite. Now, if I had made him sausage gravy that would have been different.

FYI: Did I mention Mom was allergic to chocolate?  Yeah, she never could eat it.

Chocolate Gravy

Ingredients;

1/2 cup cocoa

3/4 cup of sugar

1/2 cup of flour

1 cup of milk

2 cups of water

1 tsp of vanilla

1 pat of butter  (tsp?)

Mix the cocoa, sugar, and flour in a skillet.  Then add the milk and 2 cups of water.

Stir over med to low heat till thickened then add the vanilla and butter.

**Pour over homemade or store bought biscuits.  It really doesn't matter which one, you could even use bread.

You know I have never heard of chocolate gravy. I don't think my Mom ever made it. Sounds like something my husband would love though, so I will have to try it. Thanks!

It kind of tastes like chocolate pudding but better. Hope he loves it!

I've heard of chocolate gravy but have never tried it...for some reason the thought of it was ...well let's just say it never appealed to me.

This looks like it makes 3 or 4 cups? If I could make a small batch, maybe a cup....I think I'd be willing to taste it.

Usually I only make 1/2 the recipe Jenny. With you just wanting to taste it, I bet you could cut it down to 1/4 of the recipe with out a problem.
I think the name is just not right for the recipe. Ha ha
