Masks

So I read last night that Michigan has now said that cloth masks are not enough unless they are three layers of cloth. They also the surgical masks need to be 3 layered medical grade .  They also recommend that you need to wear an KN95.   We had figured we needed to start wearing a KN95 again the last couple of weeks, every since the new strain of Covid was found.  I've not been successful at making 3 layer cloth masks at all that fit well.

So, to me it's sounds like that it's getting easier to catch now.  Just to let you know that I'm still praying for all of you to stay well during this time.  Stay safe!

Thanks for the info. I think our cloth masks are just 2 layer, so I ordered a couple more cambridge masks which are rated n95 or n99 depending on which one you order. Hopefully that will protect my college kid more too.
Thanks for the info and the prayers. Hope you and your family stay well and safe during this time.

I am seriously doubting that masks are working at all or the numbers would not be so high. Ours are now 4-5K daily. It must be spreading on surfaces like colds do. I have started to have panic attacks when wearing a mask and my husband told me not to wear one anymore. I am still thinking about that but not because I am afraid of getting it since we have had it but because I don't want a confrontation in a store. We had it a second time in August along with others we know and it seemed to be the second strain then so they are way late on warning about it. Our alternative practitioner says that it is getting weaker so now it is easily treatable with Lavender essential oil. It has to be a good brand of oil such as from Hopewell Oils. Put it on the bottoms of your feet 5 times a day for three days and keep socks on. You can treat the common cold with Lavender too since it is also a coronavirus. One dose on the feet with usually do it for a cold.

I haven't heard of the Cambridge masks. I just ordered some Kn95 masks that didn't have a vent ..just about all of ours did and they said that was not good. Thanks for the prayers Kathy.

Got to have the big guns on now. I wouldn't chance not wearing one at all..people are wild on both sides of the coin and it could get ugly. Plus you are protected more. I understand completely about those panic attacks especially with the bigger masks on. I do my shopping quick now.

That's something I haven't heard. We have one layer & two layer fabric masks we wear out & my family wears single use masks at work because that's what is required. Honestly, I think in general one or two layers should be fine IF it's worn correctly. So many people have their nose sticking out or even are talking over the top of their mask.....I see it every single time I go out.

I guess I'm less worried than I was about covid though I feel it's inevitable we will all have it. I know so many people who've had it or do have it now. It's not fun at all but I can't name even one person who has had to go the hospital. I do think it should be taken seriously but I am just tired of all the political back & forth over it.

I do believe masks help but not as much as keeping your distance, washing your hands & not touching your face. I keep pounding that into my head.

And I am still not watching any news at all....which is probably why I hadn't heard about triple layer masks.

I haven't tried making 3-layer masks. The 2-layer ones I made turned out well--at least some of them. I tried several different patterns. One pattern I used was to go over an N95 mask and I liked it pretty well. I couldn't wear the N95 mask though, because I was allergic to the material it was made from. My skin is really sensitive. I am glad I get my groceries delivered from Walmart, though I'm missing out on some good buys from my local supermarket by not going there. Blessings and thank you for your prayers. I will add you to my prayer list.

Yikes. Thanks for the info, we will double up. Hubby has a few N95 for woodworking he purchased long ago. Maybe we'll go to those. Our cotton masks have a slot-I've heard you can use a coffee filter or blue shop towel as extra filter? I will google. We go out only every 2-3 weeks to shop, maybe I'll start order and pick up in store parking lot again. Sams has been so helpful with free delivery. We have many things stored away. I believe we are at the most dangerous time now. And believe me I have covid fatigue just like everyone, I have good and bad days with feeling of sadness, especially now that it's cold and snowy in Northern Wisconsin, but IMHO it would never cross my mind to go out without a mask-that seems so irresponsible to myself and everyone else. We so need to be mindful, courteous and kind now-it's the only way we can get thru this!

The article came access my Facebook page..it seems like I can't get away from the news!
I guess they want you to wear the better masks now.

The three layer masks I make don't stay up. I can buy some I guess and I might Do that soon.
It's probably best to just stay out of the stores like you do.
Thanks for adding me to your prayer list.

These winter days can be so depressing with this pandemic. I miss getting out in my backyard. That helped so much in the summer.
I'm not sure why people qo without masks. I make sure to go down another aisle or turn my head and hope that helps.

About masks, when this first started and our local hospital was asking for home sewn mask donations, they required they be 4 layers thick. I made a few to their specifications and could barely breath in them.
Some the masks I see people buying and wearing are so thin, I really wonder if they do any good at all.
I think the best way to not catch it is to just stay as far away from people as possible.
I do wear masks but mine are mostly 2-3 layers thick
And I mostly stay home

I meant to say that one of my friends passed away from covid and one lady I know has been in the hospital three times with complications from covid. It's still very serious and I watch everything.
I would hate to live in L.A. Right now too. Sounds extremely terrifying right now.

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

I'm not so sure about it getting weaker..never heard of that here. More people seem to be passing away here. I've heard so many remedies and I'm not sure if anything but the vaccine. Can't wait till I can get it.

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

That's the best way I think too Rhonda..just stay from too many people.

I'm sorry about the passing of your friend. So many lives lost. :(
We lost one of our church members, and I heard that the nursing home where I used to work, has lost 26 residents to covid. Those poor people. It is heartbreaking.

It's been very sad to hear of all the sickness and people dying. I'm sorry you are experiencing this too Kathy.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope my comment did not cause pain....

My best friend is sick with covid right now & I'm watching our health because she came by our house on the 26th. Her sister had it & recovered so I'm praying she recoveres quickly as well. Still, I don't seem worried about it like I was earlier in the year. I think I've decided to stop worrying over things beyond my control.

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

No problem..with the death toll so high in the United States we should be concerned but like you say not worried all the time. I just try to do what they say in an effort to stay well. That's really all we can do!
