So, on Facebook my sister-in-law and my husband's Aunt liked and shared a grocery ad for their local supermarket in Kentucky. They were giving away a prize for that. Not sure what the prize was but they were all for it. Ok, I liked and shared it too!
So, when I got to looking at that ad, I was kind of shocked. My favorite thing to buy was right before my eyes, on sale for a price I hadn't seen in a long time, Bananas were .39 a pound this week! I can't remember the last time they were on sale here. We are lucky to get them for .59 a pound and then they are green. We are getting ripped off!
Their fresh boneless chicken breast were $1.49 a pound...on sale here at Meijer for $1.89 a pound this week or the frozen at Kroger is about the same. Chicken leg quarters in KY were just .29 a pound. I can't compare the ground beef because it doesn't list the fat ratio.
Just sayin, we need better deals!

Several of our grocery stores have stopped running ads during the pandemic or have limited themselves to only printing one per month. It's hard to compare prices that way. I hope you get some better deals soon.
We need better deals here too! Sounds like our prices are similar to yours now. I thought I was doing good if I could buy chicken for $1.99/pound. Bananas are usually .59/lb too. Eggs were on a weekly deal for .89 for 18, and 2% milk was $2.89/gallon. I haven't been able to buy canned cat food for a couple of weeks now though, not sure if there is a shortage or if the ice storm has delayed deliveries.
oh no...I bet that's hard. Probably just have to know in your head what's a good deal.
The choices here sometimes can be limited. I walked down the cat aisle and I noticed some brands I've never heard of. Be glad when we get back to normalcy.
I think you live in an expensive state. Michigan just has so many more things affecting groceries than the south does. I'm speculating here but from the little I know about Michigan these are some reasons prices could be higher.....if the grocery stores (or anything to do with manufacturing, delivery, ect) are Union, more government programs in the state mean higher taxes on groceries, a higher standard of living....just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

bananas are .16 a pound
frozen boneless skinless chicken breast $1.97 a pound but it's pretty easy to find it around a $1 on sale or at Aldi...I live in Tyson country so chicken houses are everywhere & poultry is cheap.
milk is $2.78 a gallon
eggs are .87 for large, .97 for extra large
ground chuck...what I usually buy is $2.89 a pound for a 5 pound pack.
a 10 pd bag of chicken leg quarters is .59 a pound...normal price.
These are basic prices, not organic.I live in nw Arkansas & food is very cheap here thankfully.
Sounds like you do have a lot better prices too.
I guess though if you think in terms like that...I'm glad to be paying higher prices at the store if peoples wages are higher and they have a better standard of living.
So no more complaining from me!
Yeah, I think grocery prices vary widely by location. Here in East Tennessee I think our groceries are pretty reasonable, but not the cheapest. Right now, I'm still getting everything with Walmart Delivery, so no sales. This is the chicken breast that I buy ($3.13/lb) Perdue Fresh Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts Value Pack (2.5-3.8 lbs.). They do have their own brand that is cheaper, but I just looked and it is out of stock, so the price isn't showing. Maybe it was a good deal this week and that's why they are out. I usually buy 1 banana with my order and they are running $.20 each or $.51 lb. I always buy the 93%/7% ground beef and the cheapest is $4.05 lb. You can get the 73%/27% regular ground beef for as low as $2.55 lb. This reminds me, I need to put in an order for tomorrow, so I guess I will do that now, while I'm thinking about it. Blessings...
Sounds like your prices are pretty much like ours, Kay. Delivery might be higher a little but it's safer so I don't blame you a bit for doing it.
I'm not sure that the wages are that much better though when it all balances out. It's more than just cheap groceries & the poor & elderly are still taken care of well. And we still have checks & balances for employees/employers without the extra cost.
But I am sure I biased since I've always been a southern girl.
