Set in the peak of the 1960s Civil Rights movement, “Paul's Promise” is the inspiring true story of Paul Holderfield, former racist firefighter-turned-pastor who started one of the first integrated churches in the American South. It’s one man’s journey to hope and healing during a troubled time in our Nation’s history that resulted in one man’s decision to serve God and stand up to injustice - a story that continues to make a huge impact on the community to this day.
Paul's grew up with a Father that was an abusive alcholoic and he was a witness to a lot of things at a young age. During that turbulent time Paul who was white had a best friend who was black, which was very unusual for that time in our history. They had such good times together and it didn't seem to matter what race they were. One day as Paul was walking with his white friends he forgets the wonderful friendship and basically throws his friend under the bus. Paul soon finds out that those memories can leave a hurt and guilt that stay with you for life. That is without God.
Paul's Mother though had a prayer list and Paul was on top. She never forgot to pray for her son to find God, even on her death bed. She prayed without ceasing.
This is sad but such a uplifting story. Make sure to take tissues just in case you are like me and ugly cry. Make sure to watch the very end of the story, the pictures are priceless.
