Dream up Dinner: Chili from the Cans in Your Pantry!

Dinner, what is for dinner?  I looked into my pantry and decided I had a lot of food in cans but really is a can of chicken noodle soup going to fill up everybody?  Not this family.  We would have been eating  crap way into the night.  So, I dreamed up a recipe that tasted pretty close to homemade chili and it was filling.

You know the great thing about this recipe is that if you have been going to the food pantry, I'm pretty sure you are getting a lot of this sort of food.   I'm pretty sure that you are getting cans and cans of tomatoes and beans that you think you will never use up.

Or maybe you just need to use some of what is in your pantry.  This recipe will help make dinner fast.

So, now is the time to start using those cans and dream up dinner.

Chili:

Ingredients (cans)

1 16 oz jar of tomatoes

1 16 oz jar of beans (I used pinto beans but you can use any that you like or have)

2  cans of hot dog sauce (8 oz each)  (this will give your chili all the seasoning needed)

1 small onion chopped

Empty everything in a saucepan and cook on medium heat.   Cook and stir until it is heated all the way through.

Topped with grated cheese if desired.

Serves 2 to 3

Dinner is Ready!

I actually can chili during early fall when I make a big pot. It has been a saver when Hubby wants a "meal" and I want just soup. I make his Cincinnati chili.

I have home canned chili, stew and chicken tortilla soup on the shelves and it is a life saver some days!

Yum, there is nothing like a steaming bowl of chili for dinner.
