Harvest and Canning Season, Making Cereal, and the Price of Gas!!!

Our tomato crop was pretty good this year.  Yesterday. I took out all the ziploc bags of tomatoes out of the freezer and with the ones that I put on the porch to ripen,  I was able to can 7 quarts and 2 pints of tomatoes (I have previously canned some spaghetti sauce and some more regular jars of tomatoes).  So, we did well.  I can even see where we will have some green tomatoes to save.

Then. last night we harvested a row of potatoes.  Most were marble sized, we just had a few good ones.  The drought hit them hard.  We will use the marbles in stews and with green beans.  Might even use them for mashed potatoes.

I made cinnamon toast crunch with my low carb cinnamon bread.  I also used truvia to sweeten.  I followed the recipe on emmymade on youtube and then substitued what I wanted. Turned out pretty good!

The price of gas went up and since this was taken I believe it's went up again.  The price of diesel is the concerning part.  Trucks that deliver everything we need (groceries and other goods) use diesel.  This is real bad news.

How much is gas in your area?

Here in IN we have some of the cheapest gas prices in the country at the moment. Our Gov. has suspended all state taxes - which seriously helps.
Tomatoes have had a great year here as well.

You are very lucky to have cheap gas Cheryl-I've heard about it being cheap there. It's a great tomato year for sure. You got to work with what grew the best I guess.

We paid $3.55 at Sam's Club on Thursday which was a real deal since everywhere else is $3.99. I have seen that there is a diesel shortage and prices are already going up. I am over budget every month on food now. I had built up a surplus but that is going away fast.

It's hard to keep up with the prices and this morning it sounds like it's getting worse Lana. I've been canning and freezing what I can. This morning it will be freezing fried apples...we loved it last year. We got the apples pretty cheap at the Amish store. So it's not a lot but every little bit helps I guess.

Yum on the tomatoes! I am jealous as I didn't have a good harvest this year.
Gas is $4.19 here and diesel is $6. I am sure that prices on everything will go up even more.
Oh we finally have flashflood in our area. I've been watching, but so far I have only seen fish with that days sell by date. Not sure I want to risk that, but hopefully Kroger will have better flashfood deals.

Kathy, you gas isn't too high -ours is now $4.59 a gallon and I'm not exact on diesel but over $6.00 for sure.
Kroger doesn't do Flashfood here just Meijer. I never see any meat anymore on it...too many people trying to get it I think.
Oh we didn't have a good harvest on tomatoes last year so this year I planted a lot...I start the seeds myself so that helps with the cost.
Have a great day!
