Recipe: Chili Mix

I don't make a lot of mixes but the ones I do like this Chili Mix, help make cooking dinner easy and frugal.  Mixes have an added bonus too,  you know what is in them. There are no preservatives just good old fashioned spices and herbs.

Chili Mix (one recipe)

1/4 tsp. of garlic powder
1 Tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. dried cayenne red pepper
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp dried oregano leaves
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. cocoa  (yes like Hershey's cocoa)

Mix the ingredients in a bowl then add it to your jar.   This is enough for one recipe of chili so I like to multiply it till I get enough to fill my jar.  So maybe 4 to 6 times.  Hint:  A dollar store is a great place to find your spices.

To make Chili just add 2 tbsp of the mix to:

1 1/2  cups of cooked red kidney beans

1 lb of cooked hamburger

1 onion chopped

1 quart of canned tomatoes or you can add fresh from your garden

Mix all ingredients and cook in a slow cooker on high for 4 hours.  Hint:  This is how I make it but feel free to add more meat less beans or vice versa.
