I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! We had a beautiful day with lots of sunshine.
Here are the ways I saved this past week:
My grocery deal of last week was Strawberries for $1.25 a quart and a pineapple for .77 at Meijer. I bought 19 quarts of strawberries and made around 25 jars (both half pints and pints) of strawberry jam. I also made biscuits for the grandchildren while they were here.
I crocheted a couple of dishcloths while I watched it rain. I believe it has rained for a couple of weeks off and on. Until it dries up we will have to do inside work. We are getting stuck in the mud in the backyard. The good news is this week looks like a much better week in the weather department.
Grandson figuring out his last clue.
I got many of my ideas for the hunt from a book that was free in March (it is not free as of right now) called, Great Easter Egg Hunts.
I accepted a gallon of milk and some bologna from our daughter who was afraid it would go bad before she could use it.
Menu for this week:
Monday Ham and Cheese omelets
Tuesday Hot ham and cheese rollups (low carb) with leftover shuck beans
Wednesday Pizza (low carb) with ham on top
Thursday anything leftover
Friday Grilled Chicken and a salad
Saturday Chicken fajitas (made with the grilled chicken)
Sunday Out to eat
Goals for this week:
Crochet a couple of more dishcloths and make dish scrubbies
When the ground is dry enough I need to rake the yard, clean up wood pile, etc.
What did you do last week to save money?
Be sure to

Glad you had a beautiful day for Easter. Same here - first of many I hope!
The scavenger hunt sounds like fun. Good job on all the jelly!
Your menu sounds good - love the use of leftovers!!!
Have a great week.
We were able to buy ground chuck for 1.39 a pound again last week so we bought the 10 pound limit.
Over the weekend we traveled to Florida. It is major victory that my husband did it without a meltdown. We will spend as much time with family as we can this week. We are staying in a delightful little cottage on a small lake out on the country. It is so peaceful here. Meals will be whatever happens every day.
Have a good week 😊
Thanks Cheryl, I really looked for a low carb recipe to make with the ham. I'm going to try some new ones in the next few weeks.
What a deal on the ground chuck! Glad you made it to Florida! That cabin sounds so nice and like you say peaceful.
I know you will make some great meals too!
Glad you and extended family had a wonderful Easter and looks like the grandchildren had heaps of fun on the Easter egg hunt too. The deals on the strawberries and pineapple were good too. We did no shopping this week at all as we are all topped up until next month.
We celebrated Easter with friends and went to a lovely sacrament meeting in the morning on Sunday.
We spent most of the week pulling down the last of the huge grapeyard vineyard so didn't get a lot accomplished.
Finances & listings -
- Paid our 6 monthly water bill for the property and we used only 70lts of town water per day average for the two of us :).
- Paid our usual fortnightly mortgage repayment.
- Listed 10 free listings on eBay saving $16.50 on usual listing fees.
Home organisation and cleaning -
- Cleaned out and swept the garage where my car lives after we sprayed it for Redback spiders last week.
- Vacuumed my car and DH washed it and now it doesn't look like a red dust ball anymore :).
- I swept the cement paths down one side of the house to get rid of dust and leaves.
In the kitchen -
- Cooked all meals and 3 loaves of bread saving $10.47 over buying it locally.
In the gardens -
- Pulled down the rest of the grapeyard vineyard and cut the post in half where a tap was connected and put all the good posts in the leanto shed.
- Cut the not in good condition wood up with the chainsaw making just over a cubic metre more of firewood to add to our winter firewood supplies saving $240 over buying it.
Hope everyone has had a great week too :).

It sounds like you had a fun time with your family. Family times are the best.
I spent Saturday with my two closest friends. We went thrift/garage sale shopping & I found so many great deals. Five blouses for me, a jacket for the grandson & shorts for husband. A few books, brand new artist coloring pencils, linen envelopes & scrapbook paper, some elephant ear bulbs, ...I can't remember it all.
We were celebrating my birthday as well as one of my friend's. WE all exchanged gifts & I received the most luscious cucumber melon candle & a beautiful spring door banner. Then because these friends & I never get together without just having things to give to each other (I had stuff for them too!) I also was given two cardigan sweaters & a very nice boxed set of stationary.
We ate lunch at the Cotton Patch Cafe (my husband's birthday treat for all of us) & I saved almost $10 using a 20% off coupon. Basically we got three meals for the price of two so that was fun.
Lorna, Your Easter sounds beautiful. Sounds like you got a lot accomplished too with the grapevine. I bet you are glad that's out of there!
That's what we have to do is clean the car really good now since it has gotten warm. I'm glad we don't have to spray for spiders though...so so glad.
Have a great week.
Happy Birthday Jenny! Sounds like you had a great time! I love the sounds of the Cotton Patch Cafe..just the name alone would make you want to go there. Friends are precious and I'm so glad you are making the time to get together. Have a great week.
Ways I saved money last week: On Monday a friend called and asked if I wanted to go to Michael's with her. I did go, because I wanted to spend time with her, but I didn't buy anything. Our Ladies' Circle ate out at an Italian restaurant--I cut my entree' (a calzone) in two and saved the one half for my dinner the following day. I spent one day taking apart and cleaning my fans (I have numerous box fans and fans on a stand and some little ones that I use around the house). I had intended on paying one of my grandsons to clean them last winter, when he was doing some handyman work around my house, but I decided I would clean them myself--as usual, though I dislike doing that job--LOL! I needed to bring donuts to church for our continental Easter morning breakfast. I had a BOGO dozen coupon from Krispy Kreme, which is on the other side of town, so I made the trip over there to use the coupon, plus it is right next to ALDI, so I was able to get some great buys there on produce and dairy. Afterward, I'd planned to treat myself and my daughter to lunch at Chick-fil-A, but when we got there, it was closed. I'd forgotten they are enlarging the store/parking lot. So, instead we stopped at our favorite Mexican restaurant and picked up their wonderful tacos and took them home to eat. I saved quite a bit on that--at least $8. So, I'm happy with my fugal ways this last week.
Kay it sounds like you had a great week. I hate cleaning fans as well but we will have to do that soon. So much to do before summer but we are having a little cold spell today. Hiring it done would be tempting. haha
