My grocery shopping deal of the week was seeds! These seeds will make groceries, so this is my fantastic deal of the week. I'm going to work hard as I can to make my garden a success as always and when I can gather up seeds at this price I do.
Menard's had these seeds for .10 a pack (still on sale Saturday). All of these packs were Heirloom seeds, which is very important. These are seeds I can save and replant again. The GMO seeds you can not, they will not grow again.
So, I went in and gathered up carrot, pepper, lettuce, mustard, marigolds (we need great flowers for bees), cucumbers, tomatoes, and broccoli seeds. The cashier couldn't believe I bought all these seeds but I think I should have bought more! I guess I'm a seed hoarder.
Why do I feel the urgency to gather seeds? Well, last year with the flood, we had to plant twice and in some instances I planted rows very late while we waited to dry out. I really took a chance there would be a later frost. If I have to do this again, I have my seeds for a cheaper price. If my crops fail I've only lost a little bit. Plus I have more in my seed library to plant for next year.
Here is to a bigger better garden and lower grocery bills!
Are you growing a garden this year to help combat the rising price of groceries in your area?
(thanks Vicky for letting me know about the sale)
