I downloaded a free sewing pattern for a dinosaur stuffed toy this past week to sew. I plan on using a unused flannel pillowcase that I have for material and I already have the stuffing. I love gardening but winter time is the time I catch up on crocheting and sewing. I also started crocheting some dish scrubbies to replenish my stash for the next year.
Granddaughter was the one who excitedly cut out the pattern, so I kind of thought it was time to teach her how to sew. I got out the Singer toy sewing machine I bought at a garage sale for about $3.00 a couple of years ago. I was so hoping she would like it when she got old enough. Well, she is in love with the idea of sewing. So fun!We took some pants back to a store because we picked up the wrong size (a farm store). Lucky thing we did, they said we were close to the 30 day mark and they don't take returns after that (even with a receipt).
While we were there I bought some Honey Buns -12 for $4.99. This saves a lot when the grandkids want a snack or a fast breakfast on the way to or from school.
Although I spent most of our grocery budget for the pantry challenge, I saved a lot. With the shortages and the prices going up I'm glad I went ahead and spent it.
You know, I didn't think Grandma's school would open back up again but we are back worse than where we were I believe. The case rate for their school for students and staff is so high they are going to start virtual again for a week. I suspect it will be two but we should hope for the best outcome. At least we all know what we are doing!
What are the ways you saved this past week?

Our ten year old granddaughter learned to sew when her other grandparents lived 4 doors down the street. Other grandma had a big sewing room and our Jo would go and work there. By the time she was 7 she was able to really make some great items on her own. she made us bowl coozies which we use constantly. It is great to be able to teach them! I wish we had some close enough!
They are saying the current variant will burn itself out soon since it is so widespread. But, sadly yesterday we heard of a 45 year old man that we used to go to church with who died from it two weeks ago. Our schools are on virtual learning, too.
We saved on some items at the grocery by shopping sales. Shelves were incredibly bare this week ahead of a winter storm coming this weekend. There were people six deep trying to get the canned items for chili but when we went around by the meat counter there was not a single package of ground beef to be had. Thankfully our pantry was already stocked with everything we would need. We were just filling in with sale items and perishables. I did get a roast for only 3.98 a pound. We took care of the two hams still in our fridge by taking them apart into slices and packaging them for the freezer. I baked a big meaty bone last night with veggies for our supper. I think we may need to start shopping farther afield to get what we need and save more money.
Have a good weekend!
She is so ready to sew...I hope she keeps enjoying it like your granddaughter!
I'm so glad you are stocked up. It seems like the storms keep coming!
Chili sounds so good during the cold..the heat goes right to your core. I can't blame anyone. Your roast was a great deal!
Glad she liked the sewing machine - a good investment for sure. She will get a lot of joy out of that.
How neat that you are working on a dinosaur with your granddaughter. I would like to see a picture of the finished project when you’re done if possible. I love that you’re using a flannel pillowcase for it, that is a great use for the pillowcase.
Those flannel pillowcases can be hot to sleep on so I just saved them for material. Hope to have it done soon.
I hope she does! I was thinking way ahead when I bought it.
