So far we have 7 fruit trees (4 apples, 2 cherry, and one peach). After getting the last two on Friday, husband thinks we need to stop with the trees. "We are growing a orchard," he said. His real problem I believe, is he just wants a straight run with his lawn mower with nothing in his way. I can't blame him for that.
It's going to take two things to get on his good side again, never to plant another tree and one of these trees need to grow up and produce (it will be quite awhile for these last two before I see a cherry harvest)! So I pray for a harvest this year.
The urge to grow is very strong when I see the prices and availability in the stores. We need to grow our own food as much as we can!
Things the grandchildren say:
When I take the kids to school our conversations go all over the place. The sweet granddaughter last week asked why I don't paint my nails. I told her it would wash off with the dirt. She then told me I could at least wear some eye shadow and asked me do I even have some. She is so funny, I knew her next question would be where do you keep it. She looked so sad when she realized the answer was no.
My to do list
Tuesday: It's going to be cold and snowy so I'm going to paint Bathroom ceiling above tub (didn't get done last week)
Wednesday: Get a burn permit, rake the yard, and keep trimming plants around the house.
Thursday: Burn the big pile of sticks in the neighbors yard
Friday: Move the dirt after the burn to our garden. Our neighbor is very nice. We can't burn the pile because the neighbors lawn service dumped a whole lot of leaves in his pile and it would just smoke. We have been removing the leaves to our garden.
Saturday Go watch grandson's game then go shopping for a gift for husbands Mom for Mother's day. Bought and mailed!
Sunday My choices are go up north fishing and rest or go to Shipshewana on the road in Frankenmuth. I'd rather go fishing. I think I have a problem now going around too many people and those Shipshewana shows are usually packed. Although I could find our gift for his Mom there.
We went fishing up north, we had a wonderful time with the grandkids!
Menu
Monday Chili cheese dogs
Tuesday Fish and chips
Wednesday Baked chicken, mashed potatoes, and peas
Thursday Pork chops, Cornbread, and pinto beans
Friday Chicken and Dumplings
Saturday Leftovers
Sunday Take a picnic if we go fishing (chicken salad wraps, fruit, etc.) or out to eat at Culvers if we go to Frankenmuth. Ok we had to have Long John Silvers fish dinners. We didn't catch much but we had a taste for fish! I'm using the chicken salad wraps for today's dinner.
Except for the pork chops I bought the meat items on Flashfood for a very good price. I keep looking everyday for a good deal on the app and sometimes I find something then I stock up. I even bought the wraps for our picnic on there.
Breakfasts: Eggs, fried bologna, and waffles
According to how much energy and time I have this menu could change at any time (sometimes it's much to the delight of my husband). Looks good though doesn't it?

Don't you wish you could store up those grandchild moments? They are so precious and I don't remember them near long enough.
Hello! I haven't commented in quite a while. I enjoy your reading your blog and hearing about things in Michigan. My cousin took us to Frankenmuth several years ago when we visited. We have 4 dwarf peach trees that we are looking forward to getting fruit from. The citrus season has pretty much ended here, but I do have some lemons and a couple oranges and tangelos in the refrigerator to still enjoy. I planted a few potato plants that are blooming now. I think that means I will have some potatoes to harvest. I want to get some sweet potatoes going since they not only stay green and thrive through the summer heat, but we enjoy eating them. Have a wonderful week! Commenting from central Arizona. Elaine
Oh it's good to hear from you Elaine! Frankenmuth is so nice to visit we love it there, but it can get so crowded on special days. My husband loves citrus-we just bought him some oranges -that would be cool to grow some of own. Sounds like you have a great garden going!
Your so right Lana, I was just telling my husband we need to hold dear these moments the grandchildren give us, they will be grown soon enough.
My daughter and I are "thinking" about going to Frankenmuth in a couple of weeks. She's ready but I'm still talking myself into it. It is her college graduation present from me so I'll probably manage it for her. Free run of Frankenmuth with mom's credit card could be a dangerous thing but she's pretty fugal so I'm not too worried.

Congratulations to your daughter for graduating college! What a great accomplishment. I know you will have a great time. So much to see there.
Out of the mouths of babes!!!! LOL
We don't need permits to burn yard waste here - so when my neighbor burns limbs and wood - I get all the ashes for the garden. We both win.
Still too chilly to plant here - ground is still very cold.
So cold again Cheryl. I'm ready for Memorial day to get planting and praying that the garden dries up by then. I'm afraid some people might have jumped the gun and planted when it was close to 80 degrees. I can understand why they would do that but here we are wanting on the snow again.
Some neighbors are so nice!
