Our New Grocery Budget and the Menu Plan for 6/20/22

I was a little afraid of how much we have been spending with prices going up so now I'm keeping track.   I've set my budget is $125 for 3 people a week plus grandkids when they are here.

The grandkids were here a lot last week and spent the night with us one night.  I realized pretty quick that I need ice cream and cereal.  They are actually tired of pancakes they said but they ate them.  They will be here more this summer, in fact, since I've made this grocery run they were here and the bomb pops were broken into.

FYI:  the  bomb pops at $2.97 for 12 singles, were the cheapest to buy for the kids.  The other specialty ice cream was very expensive and only included 4 pops.

Aldi's Shopping

Ham  $6.78

Half and half  $1.95

Beefsteak tomatoes $1.89

2 cans of Baked Beans $1.69 each

2 lunch box pies .89 each

cashews  $4.95

Pork rinds $1.15

3 bags of sweetener $4.59

4 boxes of tea  $1.89

Saltines .98

2 shells and cheese box $1.45 each

Baking sods .72

5 bars of chocolate bars (low in carbs)  3 at $3.49 and 2 at $4.65

loaf of wheat bread $1.35

Smoked Gouda Round $3.39

Bomb pops $2.97  (grandchildren)

Aldi's fruit loops $1.43 (grand children)

total $77.70

Flash food

double chocolate chip cookies out of bakery for grandkids  $3.24

2 big slaps pork spare ribs  $14.13

4 lb ground beef  $2.44 a pound $9.76

Total spent this past week:  $104.83

Menu this week  It's going to be hot so a lot will be on the grill:

Monday          Grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and a salad

Tuesday          BBQ chicken, green beans, and roasted baked potatoes (I'm trying this on the grill)

Wednesday     Leftovers

Thursday        Grilled Hot dogs

Friday             Grilled Hamburgers

Saturday         Ham and cheese Omelets

Sunday           Back to the grill and Pork Spare ribs and fries.

Breakfast fried egg sandwich, oats, fried bologna. Lunch:  you are on your own

I didn't find a deal on potatoes last week so I have enough to tide me over plus the instant mashed potatoes I have.  The potatoes I have left are very small so on Tuesday I decided to roast them and cover them with butter and Lawry's seasoning.

Kids love those cold summer treats. I can't say I blame them in this heat.
Stay cool!

It is amazing how little our money buys now! I have been wishing that I still had my Mom's old Tupperware popsicle molds. We had thousands of homemade ones when we were kids and then she passed them onto me and I thought they were a lot of trouble. Have a good week!

Your menu sounds delicious. Grilling is a perfect way to keep the heat out of the house during these hot summer days. The bomb pops are so refreshing on these hot days.

Husband is grilling now. I sprained my ankle yesterday so we are doing the menu backwards and the hotdogs and hamburgers are today and tomorrow things happen.

This current week:
Saturday - Bison burgers (given to us)
Sunday - Pork steaks on grill with corn on cob (Son bought the steaks $1.99 lb)
Monday - Tamale pie - taco meat with the leftover corn off cob and a can of green chiles in a casserole with cornbread baked on top
Tuesday - My husband and I were not home. It was fend for yourself for the family.
Wednesday - chili (yep we eat it year round!)

Sounds so good Laura. People have soup in the summer so chili probably isn't any different. Bison burgers sound great. Have a great day!
