My Frugal Ways for 3/10/23!

I made my strawberry jam at the beginning of this past week.  Then I cleaned off the canning shelves so I could add them .   We are completely stocked with jelly.

Here is my canning shelf from a few years back.  It looks the same now but we have a lot of empty space where we have used a lot of jars this winter.

I read some where that they use to call these months the hunger months (the end of winter almost Springtime).   I would have to take a inventory and keep track of incoming and outgoing if we depended on my canning shelf and also have two gardens!  We would be skinny.

Now that is done I'm going to clean the canned  goods pantry.  I guess I'm Spring Cleaning.

There is a snow day for the kids today so I guess Spring is a ways off.  With 3 to 6 inches coming, I expect a lot of shoveling will be on the agenda today.

That thing on the side of our roof is an t.v. antenna.  We get a lot of good channels plus local news from that.

I kept myself busy trying to embroider when I can, but the cat was not always happy about that.

How is everything in your neck of the woods?

Jam looks good. Nice shelves. Yuck on the snow - but as we all know it can be winter and nasty this week and it can all turn around in a week or so! Here's hoping for you.
Have fun spring cleaning!

Your snow is beautiful! Do you have a link for your antenna? We need one at the lake house but have no idea what to get.

My Daddy's side always called it the hunger season. From the time you ran out (mid winter) until what you planted started producing enough. Mother's family said late fall to mid spring was the hunger season. Depends on what food was coming in.

I love a beautiful pantry with canned foods.

Husband fixed our propane stove this week. It's what we heat our house with.

It's still cold enough to need it some but no snow here. Lots of things blooming. Mayapples have sprouted in the woods.

I found some good prices at Sam's club yesterday.
-fresh chicken wings for $2.98 a pound. It's $3.18 a pound at my local Walmart.
-Cage free eggs $2.72 a dozen
- Strawberries $1.99 a pound
-Oscar meyer bacon $3.99 a pound
-iceberg lettuce $1.14 a head
I also bought 24 ounces of fresh mushrooms for $4.58 (it would be $6.24 at Walmart)
1 pound of fresh spinach for $4.58

These are all prices lower than the last time I shopped. I also got milk last week at Braum's for $3 a gallon....normally almost $5.

Chef, aww your Mom and Dad knew.
I'm so glad we have good stores now! I need to really get working on doing more though.

Jenny, I'm glad you found some great deals! Especially that lettuce for us it's $1.50 on sale if you can find it but usually it's $2.00.

I'm glad your propane stove is working again. Right now that's the Number #1 thing for sure.

Thanks!

Lana, your welcome. You may want a cheaper model of clearstream. Ours seems to work real good with just the two.
Have a good night

Your pantry of canned food is beautiful, Vickie. I love to see that. The snow is beautiful too. We’ve had a calm week after a rough one, so I’m grateful for that. I hope you have a good weekend.

I had an antenna like that, and it was a good one. I was able to give up the dish.
