Frugal Friday 6/30/2023!

The windows are closed and air conditioner is humming here in Michigan.  We  really haven't had the air conditioner on much so far but let me tell you about the Canada wild fire smoke that requires it to be on.  So many forest fires are burning that the smoke has caused us to be the worst quality air in the U.S. a couple of days.  We have woke up to a smoke fog every morning and it stinks much like burning rubber or something along that line.  One lady on line said she believes that it may have burnt a landfill-not sure if that is true or not but it's a possiblity.

Now that the smoke has dipped into the southern and eastern United States, I know a lot of you know what I'm talking about.

I hope they are able to get them out soon.  My prayers go out to the people who live in that area.  I can't imagine.

I harvested garlic scapes (those curly stems you see on the garlic), lettuce, and strawberries from our yard last week.  I haven't had to buy lettuce in a month.  I've chopped up and  used the garlic scapes in the stew, steak and onion sandwiches, and egg sandwiches.

I made some strawberry muffins one morning for the granddaughter.  She said they were delicious LOL.

Just before I left for a week I walked in to the garage and realized the shelf holding picnic baskets and coolers was going to finally fall.  I told my husband that it could happen anytime but right now I didn't have time to help him organize.  It fell while I was gone and we started cleaning this past week.   We went to a garage sale and found a new shelf for $20, then we started putting stuff back in and throwing stuff we no longer need out.  We donated some and gave some metal to the neighbor accross the street.  We even sold a item yesterday for $40.00.   Now, what to do with the 20 fans we found...no joke.

I hope your week as been good.  Let me know in the comments!

I'm sorry about the smoke! A few weeks ago when it was bad here I could smell the burning rubber odor, too. Our air quality is horrible here now so we are staying inside. Here there are charity organizations that take fan donations for people without A/C. Maybe you have that there, too?

Our big frugal move was going through the freezer and now knowing what is really in there. I was all ready to buy ground beef with the sales this week and found out we have at least 20 pounds on hand that needs to be used first. How we managed to have five open bags of tater tots I do not know. All those went into one gallon Ziploc for easy storage and use.

I don't blame you for staying inside- not good for people to be out right now. I'm going to look into a fan donation -I love that idea.

A lot gets lost in our freezer too. You know a tator tot casserole sounds so good but it's too hot to turn on the oven!

Have a great day Lana!

The smoke from the Canadian fires sounds terrible, Vickie. I would stay inside too if I were you. I’m glad you found a shelf to work where the other one fell. The $40 sale can go towards the new shelf. Your strawberries look so good!

Belinda, we like to think that way too. We sold somkthing and bought something so that helped pay for it! The smoke has passed over for now and it rained. It's been a good day!

I hope the smoke clears soon. We have remnants of the smoke here in Alabama. Of course, all the rain we have had and that is the future has cleared some of that out. I would hate to see a shelf that I knew was going to fall. Good job on clearing it all up and selling something. I donate fans to senior centers to distribute to elderly people who need them.
