Brr!

It's staying right at freezing for the next few days.  The low temperature will be 29 over night they are saying for both tonight and Tuesday.  Brr!

To keep us warm today, I've put Hamburger Stew in the crock pot.  I'm thinking tomorrow, a big pot of Chili is in order.   Tip: I mixed the hamburger with 1/2 cup of  ground oatmeal before I cooked it and now it's enough for both meals.   Great money saver!

I hope everyone had a great day yesterday.  I was treated to a KFC this weekend (my choice).  It was enough for two days!  Now back to cooking!

Please leave a comment and let me know how it's going in your neck of the woods.

That is cold for May! We always do fried chicken for Mother's Day, too. I got a text from the grocery store where we always buy it for 20x points on purchases for Moms yesterday so we picked up the chicken and $200 in gas gift cards. That earned almost $27 on free groceries! I have almost $40 banked now. When we go to the lake house in a few weeks this will be our grocery treats money for things like a good steak or more fried chicken. While we were in the store yesterday I checked the meat counter just to see what they had and about fell over when I saw that ground sirloin was $8.49 a pound! Steak is cheaper than that. I may have to get out the grinder attachment for my Kitchen Aid and grind it myself if this keeps up.

What a deal on your chicken and at that same time What a ridiculous price for hamburger! I think with protection that we could start regular grocery shopping soon. Hopefully find some good deals like you!

Very smart mom....to choose a place that will give you leftovers. I always do that too if I can so I can have more days off.

Son2 told me for the first time he was glad he listened and stocked up on meat and that I sent him 6 lbs of different dried beans as he called the butcher shop near him and asked what hamburger was and choked when he heard the price.
I told Hubby I don't mind paying that price when it's on the hoof and I know where it came from and it includes being cut how I want it... NOT some grocery store that I know the farmer sure didn't make much money off that meat

Yes I love takeout leftovers (with a good coupon) too! We need days off!

He is a good son to listen to you! Sometimes they think we are silly!
Fresh from the farm is always better and that maybe the place we need to go. Right to the source if we can.

Very warm and sunny here. Too breezy so I can't take my walk around the block. My allergies will flare up if I'm out in the wind too long. Have a wonderful week! :-)

Glad you had a day off cooking. I love fried chicken.
I made your chili mix recipe tonight, and we really enjoyed it. First time that I have put cocoa in chili, and it didn't taste like chocolate but added extra flavor. Thanks.

Oh man I guess it's that time of year. I don't blame you for not walking. I'm thankful for the blooms though.

I also had KFC for Mothers Day. I was back in the hospital from Thursday to Sunday Morning, I think my DR wanted to keep me one more day but, I got up early got dressed, had a hard time getting my bra on with all the heart monitor wires. He took one look, laughed and let me go home.Thank you for the books.
