My Review of Dolly Parton's Southern Style Coconut Cake Mix and Frosting!

There were no orange cake mixes  to be found last Thursday for my orange creamsicle cake.  Maybe they never had any or maybe what they did have were already bought up, it was so sad.  Really, there were not a lot of choices in the cake isle but there in the middle of what they did have, I found beautiful Dolly Parton's face staring at me on a box of Southern style Coconut Cake Mix.  I remembered the coconut cakes my Mom used to make and I decided to take a chance.

I grabbed up the cake mix, a bag of sweetened coconut, and Dolly's Creamy buttercream frosting. So glad I read the back of the box while I was standing there, I would have had to make another trip to the store for the coconut.  Side note:  I do wish I had bought two cans of buttercream, we love frosting.

This cake mix is different ya'll.  The ingredients include 4 eggs and milk, totally different.  Make sure you have all the ingredients!

So, I mixed it up and grabbed a spoon to give it a taste before I put it in the oven.  Yes, I know that there are raw eggs in it and the flour is not cooked but I grew up licking my Momma's mixer beaters and I never got over that habit.  That alone might be a cause of my death on my death certificate.  I'll never know.  Oh, back to the story, it was delicious.  Flavored with the right amount of coconut.

So, where do you use the coconut?  After it cools and you have frosted it then you put one cup of the coconut on the top and sides.

Or:

You can use two cups of coconut and make it the the best snowball cake ever.  Just do it!

We all loved it!  Great job Dolly!

Disclosure:  Dolly didn't send me this cake mix and frosting, I had to buy it and this is 100% my honest opinion.

Hubby went in Walmart for White Lily pound cake mixes last week and came out talking about those cake mixes. We need to give them a try although it will have to be another flavor since he is a coconut hater.

There is a $1/1 iBotta on the White Lily mixes, limit five and they are 2.48 at Walmart so I stocked my shelf!

So glad you liked it! It looks so pretty for Easter too!
The only Dolly mix that we haven't cared for was the brownies, but my daughter may have forgotten to add something as they were a bit chewy.

Wow! Never knew there were Dolly mixes! (for the past year we've been limiting carbs if we can-we've each lost 30 pounds, so if I walk down the cake aisle I keep my eyes forward-ha!) But I love Dolly and would buy. Thanks for the review Vickie.

My mother made the best coconut cake. She made a white cake from scratch, made 7 minute frosting, opened a coconut and grated it fresh for the cake. I can smell it now. It was delicious and her pride and joy.

Wow congratulations Nancy on your weight loss! We limit carbs too except on Easter, Halloween, Probably fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and St. Patrick's day. Oh yeah and the birthday's. No wonder I can't lose weight like you!
