Book Review: Courting Emily by Amy Lillard

cover of the book Courting Emily (amish girl)

Courting Emily (A Wells Landing Book 2)

Emily can't believe that Luke her childhood sweetheart has actually left Wells Landing.  Still in his Rumspringa, Luke wants to live out his dream of racing cars.   He would like Emily to come along after he gets his start.  Emily, barely hearing from him since he's been gone, continues to pray for him to return soon, with his mind changed.

As the months go by though, she starts to see Elam, a more stable Amish man.  Elam has had a crush on Emily for a long time but had given up when he realized that she will always be Luke's girl.   One day at a time, he seems to be winning her over.   That is until Luke comes home and tries to entice Emily back to him.

Emily must make a choice...but is it too late?

My thoughts:

I have to say this is one of the best Amish romance books I've read so far. The author, Amy Lillard, draws you into this romance story with wonderful detailed descriptions.  It was those descriptions like, the work that Emily did everyday, Luke's car racing, or even the ping of a stone hitting a window, that made me feel as though I was right there with them.   I just kept turning the pages wanting to know more.

I loved reading about the budding romances but I was particularly drawn to Elam's father James in this story.   His strength and humor in the midst of his own set of problems spoke to my heart.

I didn't even realize that this was the 2nd book of the Wells Landing series because it stands alone.   Although now of course I can't wait to read the first one!

This book was given to me by the author in exchange for a honest review.
