My Frugal Ways This Week 3/22/15

My Frugal Ways this Week 3/22/15

We had family fun night last Sunday at church.   One of the lady's brought in a pile of greeting cards she no longer wanted.   I found birthday cards and also took some cards that didn't have envelopes to use for scrap booking.     I just cut out the pretty pictures and the quotes.

We always have a small potluck first before we play games and I made the free brownie mix sent to me from Bzz agent to review  (Psst - Kroger brand).  They were pretty good.

Ordered a $3.00 gift card from Swagbucks!  Kind of nice to have a smaller goal.

Sometimes my menu plan starts out the best of intentions but start to roll with the leftovers.   Here is how my original plan went out the window last week:

*Tuesday's Corned Beef and cabbage (St. Patrick's Day)

then became

*Wednesday's Reuben Sandwiches (my canned sauerkraut)

then became

*Thursday's Smoked sausage, leftover sauerkraut, and pinto beans

then became

*Friday's bean burritos  (no meat)

Groceries:

We only bought what we had to have to tide us over to the next week at the grocery store.

My husband mixed his remaining half and half with  milk to make it last longer.

I bought fresh eggs along the route to take grandson to school - 3 dozen for $5.00.

Great deals at the pump for both cars:  I used a coupon I clipped at Meijer for .50 off gallon of gas (pharmacy rewards).  Made the gas $1.88 a gallon for one car.   Then we used Kroger's fuel points for .70 off  gallon of gas.   We paid $1.71 a gallon for the other car.

We picked up a insulation board from the road that must have fell off a truck.    We need it for my daughter's basement and for our crawl space.

I reserved a much wanted book at the library and picked it up yesterday.

Made a bib for the grand baby out of material I had on hand.   I used a pattern but it looks quite large for our little one but I know she will grow in to it soon.   I can't wait to make more.

Made bookmarks for the grand kids -dinosaurs and Peter Rabbit.

Through the week I'm too busy so I hold back receipts and rewards points till Saturday if it's possible. You can see the rewards I applied for this past Saturday here (the books may not be still free be sure and check before you buy)

What did you do last week to save money?
