Saving Money: Make Your Own Greek Yogurt

Make your Own Gree Yogurt

I love Greek yogurt and it seems to rather quick around here.   It can get costly which is why  I started making my own about a year and half ago.   Just in case you don't know greek yogurt is basically yogurt that the whey has been strained out more than you normal yogurt.   It has a creamier texture but it does lack flavor so I like to add fresh fruit or little jam to it.

Cost Comparison

From the Store

You can buy Greek Yogurt for $3.50 for a 2 lb carton from Aldi's or up to $5.00 or more from your local grocery.

Homemade Greek Yogurt

$1.99 for a gallon of Skim Milk.

Energy use 2 1/2 hours in Crockpot

Yield:    I filled one 2 lb carton and the other 16 oz jar after making yogurt.

Making Greek Yogurt has proven to be easy and reliable for me.   I haven't had a failure once since I've started making it about a year and a half ago.
