My Frugal Ways this Past Week 7/1/18!

Here are the ways I've saved this past week:

The American Falls
We had a memorable vacation this week to Niagara Falls and we just loved it.  We have enough joyous memories to last a lifetime.  Although I can't say this was the most frugal vacation we have taken, we saved money as much as possible.  We stayed in a motel that offered a wonderful breakfast saving us $80 or more a day for six (food is very expensive there), bought a fun pass that included bus rides saving us $25.00 or more to park a day, and brought our own snacks/drinks, saving us our retirement.  I filled up our cooler with their ice before we left.  The only thing I regret is not bringing a small backpack or two to take our snacks with us on the bus each day.

We loved the butterfly museum!

To prepare for this trip I bought 2 new pairs of capris.  Both were bought at JC Penny with the $10 off $10 coupons I received.  I always keep new or new looking blouses, socks, and tennis shoes back for special trips/events.  I know that sounds kind of weird but my socks and shoes can look terrible from everyday wear in the garden, walking, etc.  So,  I wear my older ones around home and hide back my good ones for things like this.  This works the same way with my blouses.  Don't get me wrong though, they may be older but I try to look my best even around the house.

When we came back we went to the stores offering grocery sales for the 4th of July. At Kroger, we bought hot dogs on Saturday.  Both the Nathan and the Hebrew National hot dogs were on sale for $1.99 with a digital coupon.  You could buy 5 packages each.  We bought all 10 packages to stock up for summer grilling.  I made sure to download the 2x fuel rewards coupon for shopping the weekend and I picked up the Free Friday Download.  We have been shopping on the weekend all month long and I filled out every survey so our fuel savings last night was .60 a gallon.  We filled up both cars and a gas can.

At Meijer we stocked up on the hamburger on sale for $2.29 a pound and the ribs on sale (grilling on 4th of July).  I made them all of the hamburger into patties and put them in the freezer.

We had an extreme heat alert yesterday (Saturday) and it looks to be  hot for the rest of the week.  We have two air conditioners going in our house.  One is at the front of the house and one at the back.  We have fans in between blowing the cool air around.  I have closed all doors to rooms we don't use, our blinds are closed to keep the sun out, we keep all lights off as much as possible, and  put clothes on the line to dry.

My goals this week:

Stain the tops of our two living room end tables.

Weed and I will probably have to water the garden.

What are the ways you've saved this past week?
