Grocery Shopping Total for this Week 2/23/19

Tomorrow we are having a bomb cyclone here in Michigan.   I've never heard of that till this week.  I've heard this described as to be high winds that are sustainable for a long period of time.  They are advising us to take it serious and to stock up on essentials.  They are saying that we need to prepare for power outage.   We are going outside soon to put up anything that might fly away.  Oh boy, what a job for us today.   I'm glad it's warmer.

After we went shopping this week I realize we are stocked up with the food that we think is essential, ha ha. We will not have to worry about keeping it cold if the power goes out because the temperature will drop enough they say that we will just be able to stick it outside.

This is sounding more and more like a lot of fun work! I'll let you know how it goes.   If you live in Michigan or anywhere close that is expecting this, stay safe and warm!

You did great AGAIN. I went for fresh asparagus this week at .99/lb. We love it and it tons in the spring months while it is cheaper.
You guys are set for the especially nasty weather as are the folks south of us. We are to get some scattered storms and wind - but it doesn't APPEAR it will be as bad here in the mid section of Indiana. Here's hoping!!!!
Stay safe!

I have never heard of a bomb cyclone but it sounds scary to me! You got a lot of great deals this week! We got quite a lot of freebies this week and we are restocking our emergency bucket of food so our total was high but I did not do the actual numbers. But, it will be good to have that taken care of since all the food that we had was out of date.

Lana, +I know stocking up for ER can be a little more costly but so worth it!
I had never bomb cyclone either -I wonder if this is just a new name for a big wind. We will see. Have a great one.

Wow Vickie you did really well with your low grocery total price this week and got so much for your money at good prices.

Sadly we thing the reign of our discount e-vouchers where we get $40 free groceries with may be over as no more have appeared on eBay :( so we probably will have to search different places locally for better deals. Without the discount most groceries at the supermarket we were dealing though are higher prices. I have sent them an eBay message to find out if they are still doing the e-vouchers and will let you know if they are.

However as we are semi retired we decided prior to knowing this went on a day trip to another smaller country town near us that we hadn't been to to pick up a few grocery items and found wonderfully cheap marked down meat at one small supermarket and other personal care items at super good deals at another small country supermarket. Prior to the trip I went through their weekly special catalogues online and picked things to purchase on specials from both supermarkets too.

Here is what we ended up buying -

From one small supermarket-

- 4 x large trays of mince weighting 3.82 kg reduced to $5 ea bringing it to $5.24 per kg. We are usually paying now $9 per kg due to the horrendous floods in Northern Queensland where a lot of cattle died and the drought here where farmers are destocking.
- A lge packet of twisties reduced by $1.

Another supermarket had -

- Watermelon for a reduced price $1.50 kg and we purchased a small one totalling just over $6 as it is so hot here.
- 4 packets of potato chips on half price special at from memory around $1.64 ea.
- 2 norsca deodorants on better than half price special for $3 ea.
- 2 shampoos and conditioners on special for $1.50 ea instead of the usual $1.90 we pay in the supermarkets.

Our total came to $50.01 for the week :).

Because we were able to get an almost years stock of grocery items and around 3 months on some meats ahead due to our e-vouchers purchased over just over a year we will now just be stocking up on specials mostly and for our staples using a 5% off gift card for groceries we get with our roadside assistance club I can purchase.

This will be a total upending of our usual routine of grocery shopping, but upon discussing this with my husband I know we can do it. We do go to a large town once a month for my husband's doctors appointments so I will do a shop for staples then at the same time.

Wish us luck everyone :).

Lorna, you did really well and that just proves that it pays to shop around! Those e-vouchers really come in handy, too! To think you are stocked up for almost a year because of your great way to save. Great job!

Thank you Vickie and I forgot to say to batten down the hatches there and stay safe in the big bomb cyclone heading your way. I have been in cyclones and the winds can be very high and damaging. It sounds like a supercell storm sort of where you have a cyclone but with stronger winds than usual.

Good you have all the foods you need to ride out the bad weather and keep us updated on how you fare in the storm. Hopefully it doesn't cause any damage.

Have a great week ahead :).

The wind has never been described that way here. Sounds pretty wild Lorna. Right now it's just raining with a little wind so we are good. Crazy weather everywhere.
