The Haircuts

Well, finally he let me cut his hair.  We brought out a kitchen chair and we set out in the backyard.  I took a garbage bag and ripped the seams then tied it around his neck.   It really needed to be bigger than the 13 gallon ones I have but it worked to keep most of the hair off him.

Mind you I've never done this before so I was nervous.  He was also nervous because I've never done this before too!  With the little bit of know how from watching youtube videos and with his instructions on how he likes it, I gave him a pretty good hair cut.  He really was impressed.

Then I did the grand boy's haircut.  Well that didn't turn out as great as I hoped but it's ok he said.  Bless his heart he said, "who's going to see me anyway?"   Hopefully, the barber's will open up and he can get it looking better before school starts.  Hopefully, school will start.

Am I doing enough?

Sometimes I get it in my head I don't do enough.  I think about all the hero's in this virus fight and think what do I do?  I guess I'm just so in awe of the people from the grocery store workers, to the fast food people, to the energy workers, to the nurses (just to mention a few), that I too want to do something that I feel is just as useful.  Do you feel that way?

I don't think my jobs are as hero worthy but it's all I can do for right now. Some of my jobs are to stay at home, homeschooling grandma, cook, gardener, house cleaner, be a good neighbor. and pray for all those hero's.  Keep them safe and well Lord.

Please leave a comment and let me know how it's going in your neck of the woods.

Haircuts - especially men's aren't that bad. I used to do hubbies all the time (as well as mine). Glad you took the plunge!

You are doing enough. Taking care of family and staying home is so very important. Being a good neighbor and friend is so important. We each do what we can.
Take care.

I need to cut my bangs..hubby said he will trim the back. It now goes way past my shoulders. I have to trust him as he did me!

I guess that's all we can do Cheryl. Thanks for the kind words.

Glad that your husband's haircut went well. Your grand boy sounds like a sweet kid.
My son is still rocking the Steven Seagal look, and his hair isn't much shorter than his sister's now.
Thank you for the books. I think right now if we can keep our family healthy and happy that we are doing our part. Hopefully our prayers help too.

Congratulations on the haircuts! It will not take too many more to make you comfortable with doing it all the time. I have an appointment for myself on Thursday!!! I have to wait in the car until she calls me and wear a mask. No hardship to have my short hair back in shape!

I used to feel like that since all I did was stay home and take care of the kids and house and home school. But, then the kids started getting full scholarships to college, four our of five of ours, and I realized my job had been very important. I also realized that God called me to do what I do and he called my neighbor to be a cardiac nurse which I could never be and I am not cut out to work all day on my feet so I will happily do what He called me to do. My biggest job now is caring for my husband and his brain injury. He honestly cannot function without me to watch out for him and guide him every single day. You are doing a huge job taking care of your grandchildren and homeschooling, too. Your daughter could not do without Grandma! I suspect the kids will never forget these days in your care.

Hi Vickie, I think you are doing a lot! Add in keeping this blog going that provides encouragement and pleasure for a lot of people, too. I understand what you are saying, though. I've had a couple times that I have felt overwhelmed with everything. Praying you have a good day! Elaine from Arizona

I bet he is looking good in that Steven Seagal look too. Some boys can really grow some hair!
Healthy and happy they are!

You get a real haircut! So lucky! I'm glad they are being safe.
So true about God's calling. never thought about it like that. You did a great job with your children. All those scholarships! Have a great day Lana!

My grandson's MIL is a nurse, my daughter manager at walmart a best friend at a nursing home. I said exactly what you said ...am I doing enough...each one of them told me this... so keep it in mind... STAY HOME , you are keeping yourself safe and those working safe. STAY HOME and send a card to the one in the nursing home instead of "oh it's allergies" when OH it's Not and sharing them with everyone in the nursing home. STAY HOME.... is making THEIR workload lighter.

You know Vickie I have step daughters(3) who are having horrible issues with home schooling and have pretty much given up, the other lets her child school himself, so for that reason alone you are doing more than enough. Good for you for trying hair cuts you can only get better. I went to Cosmetology school 40 years ago and haven't cut hair in years. I don't think I could do any better.

The grandson didn't look as bad today as I thought yesterday. I think I had let the bad haircut get worse in my head! It's not great though but it will do. I wish I had learned to cut hair in school or the very least they would have gave us a basic hair cut class. That would been so helpful.
I think my neighbor said it best, we didn't sign up for homeschooling so we were not prepared to do it. We are learning how hard it is though real fast. I hope school is better next year.

Some times we are given the simplest tasks to do and it's just as important has the hardest task. You are so right the best thing to do is to stay home.
Your family and friends have important jobs Chef. I'm very thankful for all of them.

I smile every time my husband and I take a walk and see a husband sitting in a chair in the driveway and the wife cutting his hair. :-) Times are different, for sure.

I love that your husband was willing to let you cut his hair and that you were courageous enough to do it. Once, when my daughters were young, I tried to cut my youngest daughter's hair. It was a mess! Thankfully my eldest daughter was able to finish it and make it look decent.I might have been able to do better if we'd had YouTube then. I learn to do many things that way now.

I think we all have different talents and abilities and that God made each of us with a purpose in mind. It's wonderful that you are able to do the homeschooling and care for your grandchildren. To me there couldn't be a greater calling than that. Blessings...

They sure are different. The driveway is the perfect place too -all the hair is out there and not in the house!

At least you tried Kay..I've never been brave enough till I had to. You tube has helped us figure a lot of things out.
Blessings to you too Kay!
