I Need to Get a Grip!
You know that comfort food that we all seem to be living on since this virus started? For me it's been lots of sugar and carbs. It seemed to give me energy and I was moving fast.
How did I stray so far away from good eating? Stress, like I never experienced before. Listen, like you I have had stress in my life but this has been a stress I have never experienced before.
Lately though, I've hit bottom and I noticed that it's working against me. Now, the high energy is gone and that comfort food is no longer a comfort. I need to get a grip. The sugar has been giving me a headache every day but yet, I crave it. My bones seem to ache more too. So, last night I decided enough was enough. I decided the sugar consumption is going to be cut way back and so are the carbs. It won't all be perfect, because I love both sugar and carbs, but it will be better than what was.
I made a big salad for a late night snack and we all loved it.

I hear ya!
My breakfast is usually special k, lunch is cottage cheese and apple but supper is a salad with comfort foods. And I made a pound cake yesterday, but I had it with fresh strawberries. :)
Last week I was making all kinds of mood foods. I know I have put on weight - which is crazy, as my life isn't really much different.
Foods seems to equate comfort!
Chocolate.. 2 candy bars a day... at night.... SO I decided I can have them before noon (which means those calories will be worked off) I switched the coke/sprite by the bed (half of a 20 oz nightly) to water cup that I got at the hospital. I also got the second "hospital" water cup for the afternoon since they hold 28 oz of water.
I am the type that doesn't care if they eat or not. But Hubby is starting to graze of trail mix, chips and ice cream and he is trying to LOSE weight.Snacking on high calorie food isn't going to help so I will be spending time in the kitchen prepping food and "snacks" Choc chip brownies anyone? LOL
Oh, how you struck a nerve with me. This is happening to me also! We visited another town 50 miles away on Wednesday to see if their grocery stores are better stocked than ours. Nope. Still no toilet paper but I did find apple cider vinegar which I needed for canning. It took us longer than we expected so we got hungry and ate chips and dip from the store. I NEVER do that. We enjoyed ourselves and said we were "eating out" while sitting in our car in a parking lot. Not very impressive but was a treat for us.
Yesterday another bad storm ripped across middle Tennessee and we were without power for a long time. Out came the ice cream which we ate for dinner because it was melting in the freezer.
It seems it is one disaster after another and it is going to continue like this for a while. Today is going to be salad time...if I can wade to the muddy garden and pick something between storms.

Oh that pound cake sounds so deli Kathy! I think we all are wanting comfort foods!
It's funny how that certain foods can make you happy. We have went kind of wild around here. Husband is better than me but he is ready to eat better. If it gets rid of headaches I'll be good!
Sorry to hear about the storms Jeanine. Glad your ok.
Your meal out sounds fun. I wish we could pick our salad but maybe in a couple of weeks.
Stay safe.
Yep we were doing the mindless eating and drinking pop too!
I think your right prepping ahead is the way to go, Chef.
I'm eating way too much, too! I have a couple of pounds that are trying to creep back on, so I've decided to up my exercise out in the garden and take the dog for more walks. I'm also trying to lessen my evening eating.
My husband started to gain a bit, too, which is a bad idea since he needs to stay at weight for his upcoming surgery, so he really cracked down on himself. I wish I had 1/2 of his willpower. He dropped the few pounds that were creeping on, and lost a few more!
There's just something about staying home so much that makes me want to cook, bake and eat, and my daughter just keeps coming over with crisps, donuts, breads, cakes, and so forth. Baking is her happy place, and she can't eat all she's baking! I've been a willing participant, but it's time to slack off a bit. I've decided to bake today because I love to, and drop most of it on the doorstep of friends with 7 children. Hopefully, that will be a win-win solution, since I can eat a small portion and be done!
I love that idea Becky to give it away! Eat some and give the rest.
It seems like the man can handle get a grip better than us!
We have actually both lost weight through quarantine. We are not stressed out so I don't know why. For sugar cravings you may want to take alfalfa. We use Nature's Way Alpha Max. It will correct you pH and stop the cravings. Your pH being too acid is likely behind the headaches too. If mine is off I really suffer.
We’ve eaten way worse during quarantine too-
Thanks for the book listings, I got 4 today
I hope you love them Rhonda!
I'll give that a try Lana. It's probably just stress and had eating but I'm going to give it a try.
I enjoy salads. :-)
So good this time of year.
