My Grocery Shopping Deal of the Week:
I failed the test and didn't take a picture this week, sorry. Our deal this week was on hamburger. A store we love to go to out in the country had it on sale for $2.99 a pound. Of course we had to buy a giant package for $27.00 but we wanted to buy a lot anyway.
The hardest part to me after you find the deal is putting it up. I have to be intentional and get with it no matter how tired I am. We put the hamburger in one pound packages for dinners. We started using the food saver but we ran out of bags so we ended up just using ziplock freezer bags. Food saver bags ordered this morning!

I am right there with you, Vickie! I will find good deals and then drag my toes putting it up. I really need to be more intentional in that area. Good for you for getting it done!
Have a wonderful weekend!
That's a great price and I know what you mean about putting it up. It is so easy to come home and shove it in the fridge and forget about it. Then I remember it in the middle of the night!
One of our local stores had bottom round roast on sale for $3.99 and we thought we would go and they would not have any but they did and also pork Boston butt roasts for .99 a pound. Butter was 2.50 and we found frozen concentrate lemonade and limeade which we had been on the hunt for. I had a 40x bonus on the app so we bought gas gift cards and converted $200 of our home maintenance budget to gift cards for Home Depot and Lowes. We were quite surprised to find that we had earned over $77 in points which is that much in free groceries. Added to what we had we now have $98 in credit! I will be on the lookout for those bonuses in the future and make good use of them!
What a great deal! We haven't seen ground beef that low in a very long time here. I hate putting meat up too...yuck. But at least all I have to do is buy & repackage. I don't have to slaughter & process it!
I bought alot of beef this week as well. I'm almost embarrassed to admit what I paid for it but here's how it played out. My husband was given a bonus,($125!) I think it was for 33 yrs of work but honestly we are so lucky with his employer. They give extra so often I can't remember.
He gave it to me to spend anyway I wanted but hinted that he'd like some good steak. So I braved actually going into my local neighborhood market to see what I could find. Here is the meat I bought plus some fresh produce.
1 pd 80% gr. chuck reduced to $5.85
1 pound 73% lean gr. beef reduced to $3.89 (not too bad but I don't usually buy 73%)
Steakhouse seasoned burger patties (4) reduced to $6.48 (we love these even though it was only 1.33 pounds of meat)
1 pd 80% gr. rnd $5.72...yikes. This is what I like to buy the most.
3.24 pds Beef ribeye $40.40 (😳 this is 3 steaks. We'll eat two for Father's Day & I'll freeze the extra for a special date night meal at home)
3.42 pd rack of St Louis style ribs reduced to $6.94 (I was excited at this buy)
I also bought three boxes of Walker shortbread cookies(his favorite) for him using 3 $1 off coupons.
My husband keeps telling me that he drives an old car so we can eat whatever we want.
The comment section is not letting me reply Jennilee and Lana so I just replied to you here.
Jennilee, That's me -it's so easy to buy it then you have to put it up!
Have a great weekend too!
Lana, That's a good price on butter. I need some to stock up on soon. You did so well on points, wow! Quite a savings for sure!
I had to laugh as putting it away is a struggle sometimes. I discipline myself and don't go to bed without putting everything away. I have at times been putting things in the freezer in my jammies. I hate that because our freezer is in the garage and at night there is no telling what critter might be encountered.
DH and I were just discussing getting a half of beef and a pig if prices do not moderate. That led to the inevitable new freezer discussion. I'm not willing to put a big investment in meat in a 50 year old freezer. I know a new one would be cheaper to run, but this old thing (a wedding present my best friend got and gave to us when she got a new one) works perfectly.
I know exactly what you mean about buying a good bargain and then having to take care of it, when you get home. I, too, am usually tired and do not want to deal with whatever it is. But, we sure appreciate it later! I will say it was easier, when my daughters were young and still at home. They were such a help in putting away the groceries, while I was often cutting up chickens or some such task. BTW--good buy on the hamburger!
Jenny congratulations to your husband on 33 yrs of work! A very nice gift from his employer.
oh my goodness, you did so well on your meat shopping. We love those burgers too.
Listen if I had to butcher and process the meat, the animals would just become my friends. LOL
Anonymous my freezer is in the garage too. We bought it at a garage sale 10 years ago. I always claim there is a homeless person out there. not sure how they would get in though but I still make my husband go out there.Haha.
It's a big decision to buy a new one for sure.
Kay I want the bargain but not the work! Kids do help a lot..I miss them too! Have a good 🌙.
The comment sections has been acting weird for me on my blog too, Vickie.
That is a great price for hamburger right now. I would have bought a big package too. :)
I hope the comments get better soon too Belinda. Last time it took quite a while to get back to normal.
Great deal!!!
I think hamburger is $5/6 a pound here if you can find it, and steaks were $12.99 a pound at Kroger.
Oh that's so good the reply button is working! Yeah. Kathy I saw the steak and walked past it real fast here! The availability and price of meat is wild! I think you could get a hamburger or steak out to eat cheaper than making it yourself sometimes!
Definitely--LOL!
