I was up at 5 this morning putting in a strawberry birthday cake for the oldest daughter.  I decided to bake this early because of the heat.  It was 97 degrees here yesterday and I just couldn't bring myself, even with the air on, to put a cake in the oven.  I feel we would have never got it cool in the house again.

Listen, we are having a heat wave!

Then while the cakes were cooling and to dodge the heat some more, I went out in the garden and weeded what I could,  I guess I should have wore gloves.

Sorry for the blurry picture but I weeded the corn, cabbage, some beans, and the first row of tomatoes.  I usually weed the garden in  sections.  I think I've  split it up into about 5 sections.

You can do more when you not falling over from a heat stroke.

There has not been a significant rain in weeks.  Maybe soon.

What's going on in your neck of the woods?

Heatwave here as well - about 10 days of plus 90F but feeling like 100F with the humidity. I get up early for walks, cooking and any major cleaning - then I close the blinds and crank up the fans. I have A/C in the bedroom so at least I can sleep at night and I'll spend an hour or so in there in the afternoon if it gets too bad.
I hate this weather as I have no energy. There are thunderstorms due on the weekend so I'm hoping that might bring a bit of relief.
Be careful when out in the garden.

It is cool and rainy here in the SE because we have a tropical depression sitting over us. It is blessed relief from the heat and I can see everything greening up and sighing with happiness at the break and the rain. I should get some baking done too since the house is so cool today. Have a happy birthday with your daughter.

Happy birthday to your daughter. I hope she has a nice day. Strawberry cake sounds so good.
Your garden looks great. I need to pull some weeds.
We are in the 90s here too, and we haven't had rain in a week or more.
Hope you have a good day. Stay cool.

We have the exact weather and we both think the same of it. At noon it's 91 degrees here.
We close the blinds too..feels like we are living in a cave.
We just need to read a book and forget about it.
Stay cool!

You have our weather! Give it back! enjoy it while you can. Our grass has died a quick death.
It will come back as soon as we get some rain. Have a great day!

The humidity must have moved north this summer. I never remember a summer without humidity here....it's hot but because there is little to no humidity it really has not been too bad. Even when we hit mid to upper 90s. My husband & I are thoroughly enjoying it & hoping this will become normal for our summers.

We got two really nice showers over the weekend....no watering for a couple of days! I was so excited.

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

It's in the middle 90s hardly any humidity here either. We just are used to the 80s in the summer as our normal temps. You can have them those high 90s back.
Oh I hope we get rain soon.

Hope I don't sound too cranky Jenny..I get cranky when I'm hot. LOL. I probably need a nap too!

We had pouring down rain last night and off and on today. I just walked to the mailbox and the air is thick with humidity. Feels like the air takes my breath away. Have a wonderful week! :-)

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

The rain helps a lot doesn't it Melissa? The humidity though can keep you from doing anything.
Despite what the weather man said we got rain. I'm it was a sprinkle but we will take it!

No you do not sound too cranky...my husband teases me about the ac. He says I'm so much nicer during cool weather.. (eye roll).

Our summers used to be upper 90s to 110. I've measured temps on my front porch well over 120' on a hot summer afternoon. Ugh! Add high humidity & you may as well just drown me...I cannot bear it at all. The grass used to die by the end of June. Just brittle brown dust that was so bad little dust clouds buffed up with each step we took...& when the dog ran it was crazy dust.

So, Low 90s with no humidity seems almost like paradise to me. Though even 80s is much hotter than I like. I like days in 60s & nights in the 40s.

Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden said...

Ha ha You make me feel so much better Jenny! That's exactly what my husband would say too-I'm much nicer when I'm cool. The grass is basically dead everywhere too- Husband will mow the weeds tomorrow.
Heat is something I guess I need to get used to if I can. Spring is better, so is Fall!
Stay cool.
