How Far Are You Thinking Ahead?
We are all stocked up on food. We really don't need anymore but still my mind is racing ahead to the special food we like at Thanksgiving and Christmas time. If it's not too late I'm going to stock up on the ingredients of the favorite foods we like to eat and I'm not able to or didn't grow. So, I'm mentally thinking about each meal and what we have in our pantry. It's just a few ingredients but it could make a very sad Christmas without them.
Thanksgiving
Sage (I know I'm getting low)
Decide what pies to bake and make sure we have all the ingredients. There were no apples on the fruit trees this year (deer problems). Canned Pumpkin would be something to look into also.
Potatoes - I have plenty of instant potatoes but we need to stock up on some real potatoes. We hope to do that in the near future, more near harvest time.
Sweet potatoes and marshmallows.
Christmas
Ingredients for Miss Eisenhower's fudge . Christmas without making this recipe would be very sad.
Sprinkles for cookies. I have some but not enough Christmas ones.
Dry Cocoa
Are you thinking that far ahead?
Uncommon Ground - A Christian Suspense (Pleasant Hearts & Elliot-Kings Book 1)
Bearded

That is a good idea, Vickie. I am thinking that it would not hurt to start getting some dishes cooked and in the freezer. I always do my sweet potato casserole ahead and freeze it so why not do it a bit early? I am wondering about Christmas presents too. How can there possibly be enough stock on hand anywhere to support the deluge of shoppers.
It is work to keep the pantry topped off. I want to keep it full in case one of us gets sick & we can get fresh foods....that is so exhausting to constantly think about it.
I've started thinking ahead to the holidays as well. My daughter-in-law hasn't had too much trouble keeping her cookie pantry stocked, thankfully. Even during the craziness earlier this year. But she is very resourceful.
I'm with you on the presents. I can do the adults but the kids always want the latest toy. I'm going to start on getting some of it.
lucky I don't do much for Christmas anymore I'm extremely low income as I'm on public assistance while I fight for disability. I already gave a couple things to one of my brothers, I have some things for my oldest brother,(hat, gloves and socks) but I will add something fun for him. I ordered something from Wish for one of my nieces I'll most likely add some more things, I have ideas. I will do food items for my brother and family and I have craft ideas I may use. I really still need some food items stocked and some HBA and things like the lo-dose aspirin I take and first aid items. and TMI warning but even though I'm over 50 aunt flo is still a fairly regular visitor so there's those supplies. since I've moved recently there was and is a lot to get and do.
Great idea! I don't want a sad Thanksgiving or Christmas. I think I will stock up on holiday baking supplies too.
I actually ordered the kids a couple of Christmas presents, and dh a present from woodcraft. I think we are going to fill mother in laws oil tank soon. She usually substitute teaches so she can get her oil, but with virtual schools, she isn't subbing and I'm glad. Our cases are spiking since the students came back to college. I think my son has somebody in quarantine in each of his college classes. Praying he stays well.
I think I have about everything I will need for the holidays covered. Meats and veggies, sauces, and baking goods. I wanted to be sure - just in case.
Now working on canning up stuff for gifts.
I've started thinking about it and I did order a case of the dehydrated hash browns, so I could make my hash brown casserole, as needed. I often make it with baked ham. I did have my daughter get almonds and walnuts for me from Sam's, but I might need pecans. I will think about it some more.
Great idea. September is next week and the holidays are quickly approaching. :-) Have a wonderful week!
We need dehydrated hash browns too! We love that casserole
I'm like you the pantry is always on my mind. Your comment has me thinking more about it one of us gets sick mainly me.
I'll check into that more.
I hate to hear about those #s spiking but but it's happening here too. I'm so glad your mother in law is not working and your taking care of her oil bill. I bet it's a relief for her.
Good idea to get started on the homemade gifts. You are going to be done before you know it.
I think your wise to keep prepping for the things you need the most. Sounds like you have been preparing for Christmas too. You know that's the best way..a little at a time. I hope your situation gets better soon but i love how resourceful you are.
Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before we know it. You have a wonderful week too!
