I was out picking greens last night and realized I had turnips.  So it's kind of crazy what I haven't eating in my life and turnips are one.  I love the greens though.

After asking my friends on Facebook I took my first bite of a turnip with salt.  You know I liked it!  It's kind of like a potato mixed with a radish.  Not bad at all!

I'll be cooking mustard greens too and adding them in.  Others suggested mashing them like potatoes, frying them in butter,  putting them in salads, and roasting them with other root vegetables.

Do you like turnips?  How do you cook them?

Your turnips and greens look great!
I'm not a huge fan, but depending on the variety, they are good in salads and most anything is good roasted. I've added them to beef roasts with potatoes and carrots too.
Misfits box has expanded my cooking. I had never tried jicama before and still not a fan of swiss chard.
Hope you have a good week.

I love turnips. I usually just boil them with some salt, a little sugar and a little butter. Mashed turnips are good too. My MIL used to use turnips instead of potatoes when she cooked a roast. Ann

Yes someone mentioned stews too. So I know roasts would be good. I tried Swiss chard too. Not a fan either. The rainbow Swiss chard though is so pretty.

Ann your the first one that's mentioned sugar! That's upping the game!

I like turnip greens, but don't care for the turnips. If I were hungry I would eat them though.

Yep now I know I could eat them too! No beets though they taste like dirt..I would starve.

I can't ever remember cooking turnips but I do remember my dad growing them in the garden when I was really small....I wasn't very excited about them.
I really should learn how to cook greens. My husband loves them & they're very good for him. But I really don't like them so I never cook them.

My mother is from the south - sugar goes in almost all vegetables. It does help with the bitter taste of some vegetables - turnips being of them at times. Ann

I've never tried that. I'm going to put some in next time I cook some and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip.

Greens are an acquired taste ..really one that I thought I would never ever get. For some reason though I gradually began to love them. They grew on me I guess. Maybe you'll get to love them too.
Maybe you could make a little for him and keep trying them.

If you can find the time to share how you make them I'd love that. Or if you have links to recipes you use?

I just made a post Jenny. You asked just at the right time -I was making some! Give it a try and let me know if you like them.
