The Fruit Fly House!

Both kids are here this week, so I've been helping both with their schoolwork online all day.  It's a job sometimes, but they are getting an education, so I'm working hard for them as I can.  I  hope they remember this time that Grandma helped them with a smile because you see, crazy things happen in this house while they are learning.  Oh, the online school is still going on but weird stuff can be happening behind the scenes.  It's time like these that I hope they both have pressed the mute button and the cameras are off for the moment.

For instance, we had a lot of apples given to us recently and a lot of fruit flies came in with them.  Nothing I tried seemed to be working (cleaning like crazy and the vinegar trick).  Just let me tell you about yesterday, when it all seemed to blow up.. those fruit flies had families.  It seemed like we had a swarm of flies everywhere (I think my imagination and tears overcame me).   Really, I  was just getting wore out trying to kill them.

It was about that time the online school just fell apart, I looked over at the grandboy and he was standing up in his school chair swatting fruit flies.  What a sight.  Then, the girl just moments later decided she was just going to melt into the floor (her snow globe picture was not up to par).  Oh man,  your guessed it, Grandma lost complete control of the classroom.

So now, the kids are calling us the fruit fly house!

I know you want to know what finally worked.  Believe it or not a fly swatter!  So, if you can imagine a old woman (that's what I've become after yesterday) her hair up with a bun hitting the cabinets with a fly swatter, with all my force, your good.  It was like, Bam, got another!  I probably looked like a mad woman.  It must of worked, I've only seen one this morning, and I'm going to kill it when it lands on something. Bam!

Whew, How's it going in your neck of the woods?

Oh I have to laugh...sometimes we have to laugh to keep from crying...or we just do both! I feel like my house has become the crazy house too. I just found out that I'm going to have my grandson for 8 days straight...I have a four day weekend then starting Tuesday I have him every day up the 23rd....goodness. I told my husband & he just looked at me. What could he do? He's so tired poor man. You can't really reason with a 3 yr old very well & a three yr old who does not take naps is exhausting.

But I do feel the same way as you. I'm working as hard for him as I can. He really is a good little boy, almost never throws fits or whines..he's just super active. Thankfully he loves to draw, color, paint, ect. So I keep a supply of crayons, chalks, pencils & water colors on hand. He can play with them quietly for a very long time.

I think your grandchildren will look back at their covid experience as adults & really appreciate all your hard work. Hopefully they'll understand it all before they become grandparents themselves!

Oh how I hate fruit flies! Having homeschooled for 23 years I know what you mean. Some days just end up a mess but I salute you for taking this on when you had no plan to spend your days being a school teacher!

Oh, man I remember well those days of no naps. The day just stretched out forever! May the Lord give you strength Jenny so you can become super Grandma and Grandpa. We are talking about disappearing at some point during the holidays together alone but I think it's all a dream.

When I was younger my dream was to be a teacher. I didn't realize how quick things could become wild. I
That's so cool you homeschooled for that long! You endured and made it to the finish line.

Ok I have a mental picture of you swatting those fruit flies. Hope you can get a break soon.

After reading my post again, I sounded very much like I needed a break. School was much better today after most of the fruit flys left. The sweet girl even was impressed with her picture.

I'm dreaming right there with you....my husband & I are so spoiled. In 33 yrs of marriage, we've always had a week off at Christmas to rest. For the first 20 yrs or so his company shut down that week. Now they keep running but we loved it so much that he saves PTO to take that week. This year...we're babysitting. Fun times!
