Knowledge is Power! 9/6/22

I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.   Between our travels last week I watched a lot of YouTube to relax.   I'm so tired of the bad news about how the world is going to end, we are all going to starve, do everything now before you die, go spend all you money on your pantry, etc. because you know money will not be worth anything,  that I refuse to listen to all that.   I seriously hope and pray that no one goes and spends all their money.

So, now I try to watch something that will help me with the knowledge instead.  Something that will save me money, help me and encourage me to stock my pantry, suggestions on what to grow in the garden to keep from starving, and finally find something to craft to keep my mind off everything.

Here are some helpful videos that I've watched in the last week:

Feeding animals on Less.  Let's begin with the first thing that caught my attention, besides cute Sister, from Hollar Homestead,  was the fact he said that the 50 lb feed bags where now 40 lbs.  As I was sitting on my patio, I thought no, that has to be wrong. I had just went to the Farm and Home store and when I picked up that bag to throw it in the cart, it felt like 50 lbs.  I paused that video and went right to the garage and guess what?  They are now 40 lbs.  You know, we need to check everything now in the food department.  I just didn't think it would happen to chicken feed.  My eyes were open.

I then started reading the comments.  Oh man, such good suggestions on what to grow in your garden to feed the chickens.  Comments are very important!  First up for me, I'm growing more sunflowers next year.  Someone said if you plant them around the run that will give them shade plus they are good for them.  I'm going to try that for sure.

I already give the chickens cabbage leaves, grapes, tomatoes, apple peels, and more from the garden.  Okay, I give them our food scraps too.

Storage

I wanted to know what people use to store their potatoes in.  We have them right now in the basement in a wicker basket but we needed something that will help them not rot as fast.  I watched Michigan Gardner and he gave some great suggestions on how to store your onions and potatoes.

How to Keep from Starving (Gardening)

Here is a good one...6 Crops to Grow to keep from Starving from Self Sufficient Me .   He tells about the 6 crops to grow that will give you great vitamins and keep you full.  See, if we are going to starve we need to know this.

Saving Money

Prepper Princess had a good video about The Fastest Way to Save Money Around Your House.  This had some great suggestions for saving money you might not of thought of.

Crochet

It always bothers me that I can find more to make for girls then boys. Then I found this 3 D effect crocheted blanket and I'm going to make it!  Grandson will love it.   I'm excited to get started after I embroider two more pillow cases!

If you watch youtube what channels do you watch to help you gain knowledge?

Thank you for this! I agree on the doomsday videos. My sister's dogs like some wet dog food in with the dry but canned dog food has gone through the roof to feed to two big dogs. Both of them love green beans so she started adding half a can of them to the food bowls and half the wet dog food she used to add. They both love it!

Lana, She is a very smart sister. Stretching that dog food with green beans is the way to go. The dogs are lucky to have her!

Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend!
Thanks for the links, they sound interesting and sensible.
We don't have chickens now, and I didn't know that the bags of chicken feed had shrunk. Cat food has sure gone up in price though.
I'm with you, I'm not going to listen to those doomsday folks, and I'm not going to let them steal my peace.

I have had no luck in growing my garden. I have just been stocking up a little at a time on canned goods. I watched the links you shared. They had good information, thank you.

Peggy because of a drought our garden didn't produce as well. I think its great you are getting stocked up with canned goods.
