Frugal Friday 6/23/23!

Sorry to be gone so long but I went to my sister's memorial service last week with my daughter.  We did a lot of sight seeing that we had planned the rest of the week (we had hoped she might be able to come with us).  I miss her a lot.

Husband stayed at home and I thought you might want to know what I left him to eat.

1.Homemade pizza

2.Stoffer's lasagna ($8 on sale and I had a $4 mperks coupon)-husband and daughter thought it was delicious.

3 Chicken and sides (A Meijer Market Meal)-daughter said it was very good.

4. Spaghetti- (A Meijer Market Meal) -I bought a total of 4 meals (one for daughter and him) for $15.00 from Flashfood.

5. Hamburgers ready to go on the grill

6.  Hot dogs grilled the day before.

7.  He went out to eat for a day.

Well, of course he had his own ideas and he grilled some more meat one day.  We had his hot dogs yesterday.  Today I think we will have the chicken and sides and spaghetti market meals they didn't eat.  I need some rest, unpack, and to fix my garden!

Speaking of our garden...Some of my tomato plants perished in our drought and some zucchini plants never came up.  We stopped by our favorite place to buy plants and vegetables hoping he would have some plants I could buy.  He came out telling us that he was giving away the ones that were left. What a blessing!  They look kind of sad so I watered them last night and plan on planting them in the morning.

We took some tomato plants and cucumber plants (he didn't have zucchini).  So, unless the seeds finally come up for the zucchini -we will buy some from him when they come in.  Oh yeah, he gave me a few begonias too.

We also stopped by a garage sale and I bought more pint jars.  I bought 18 pint and 2 half pint jars  for $6.00.   Come harvest season I  will can more in these smaller jars.  We seem to only need a pint of tomatoes or green beans lately at dinner.

I picked about a quart of strawberries yesterday and picked our third quart this morning.  For a small strawberry patch we are doing good.

We compared them to the ones we had bought at the store and mine have such a good taste.  They are also red in the middle instead of white. ... and a lot less expensive!

I saved money on my mealworms for the chickens buy buying in bulk from Amazon It's a lot of money to buy so much at once but the savings are double.  I was paying anywhere from $14 to $20 for a 1 pound at the local feedstores.

I put some of the worms in a bag I saved from my last purchase from the farm store and saved the rest in a small trash can.

I hope your week as been good.  Let me know in the comments!

Glad you got to make the trip - sorry for the reason.
Free plants - that is a win!!!
Great price on the jars - you can't have too many jars.
Rest up from vacation!

I wanted to let you know that I'm sorry about your sister. I can imagine how much you miss her.

Sounds like a good week otherwise, Vickie. Good deal on the mealworms from Amazon and how nice of the store owner to give you those plants for free. And what a steal you found on those canning jars!

We had the Stouffer's lasagna a few years ago and I remember it being very good too. I think the mac and cheese is really good too.

I hope you have a great weekend and your garden perks right up.

Cheryl, I can't believe how that vacation has wiped me out. I'll get back with it soon I hope. The clothes are unpacked so that's a plus.

Belinda, I just might buy the mac and cheese if they come on sale again like that. The kids would love it!
It's raining right now -so nice to get my garden watered.

I am so sorry for the loss of your sister. I'm sure that the memorial service was very special, and I'm glad that you were able to do some sightseeing too.
Hope you are able to get some rest.

T am so sad for you. I can't imagine life without my sis on the other end of the phone. What a blessing to get free plants! Prices n plants are just stupid high this year!

It seems like it will be awhile Kathy before I'm all caught up on rest. It was a long plane ride and it sure does wear a person out. I actually spoke at her memorial service. I wanted to honor her life but I was so afraid that the lump in my throat would keep me from it. I made it though and I think she would have been happy with my story of her life.
Thanks so much for caring.

Lana, I had three sisters -all have passed away in their sixties. I miss them all. I have one brother left. I hope to live long but the odds are against me it seems like, but I'm going to try.

It actually rained here today so I'll get out there tommorrow. I'm so glad for the rain! That man was so nice - he recongized us from our visits to his roadside stand so we talked quite awhile. They are good people.

Thanks Nancy, I'm so glad that I got up enough nerve. I wanted everyone to know how great a person and sister she was. Of course, they already knew it!
