Frost Is Just Around the Corner & Amish shopping!

With the threat of frost just around the corner (next Tuesday night) I've been picking my green tomatoes and wrapping them in newspaper.

Checking them often, we are then able to use them as they slowly  ripen.

Our trip into some Amish country

We stopped at a farm and bought watermelon for $4.50 and a big cabbage for $ 3.00.   The thing about Michigan watermelons is that they come in late and it's already getting cooler.  They are delicious though!

Then we stopped at Country View next and bought some great deals with apples being our #1 thing we wanted.

We bought a half bushel of Gala apples for $12.00.  We have already eaten quite a few out of this bag.

We were detoured by road construction and found a Amish bakery that we had never been to before.  They had wonderful sourdough bread and donuts for a great price.  We told her how we just happened upon her bakery and she gave us this map of all the Amish businesses!  This is really helpful and we wish we had it years ago.

Hope everything is going well at your house.  Have a great day!

Oh wow, how neat. I would love to visit all those Amish businesses.
That is how my Dad always did his tomatoes too, to make them last as long as he could thru the colder months. The watermelon sounds delicious.
