The weather has changed a lot here in Michigan in the past two weeks. Cold weather has finally settled in for a stay. The warm blankets needed to come out along with the fleece sheets. The blanket above was made by my husband's grandmother and gave to us about 25 years ago. It's heavy and made out of polyester.
Gratefully accepted some birthday wrapping paper for children from a friend. It will come in handy in the next few years
I washed Ziploc bags, clipped coupons (digital and paper), saved aluminum foil (cleaned first), and saved the butter leftover from making the Red Lobster biscuits.
Answered the survey on the Kroger receipt to earn 50 more fuel points.
Used our fuel points from December to get .20 off each gallon of gas.
Downloaded the Free coupons everyday so far at Kroger.
Our No Spend January:
Wild things happen in the Kitchen when you cook a lot:
I made a recipe for donuts and I realized that I would need a lot more flour than the recipe stated to make it roll out. I just kept adding and adding till finally I had enough flour in the dough. I ended up using my 5 pound bag of flour! I ended up with about 3 dozen doughnuts and two big pans full of cinnamon rolls (I got tired of making donuts). I froze a lot, took some to the church workers, and gave some to our neighbor's. They turned out very good.
**Normally we may use a 5 lb bag of flour maybe every three months. Already I have bought 10 pounds. I'm thinking next year maybe buying more flour in bulk (thanks to a comment). I would have to think of where to store a lot of flour and consider whether this would happen again (it didn't happen the last two years).
Where did it go? ($20 a week spending money)
I had a dilemma this last week when wonderful grandson wanted me to go to the circus with him. I decided in the end I would go and then just take out a loan from my $20 we allotted ourselves every week. I ending up spending $35.00 (circus is very expensive). To fix the budget problem I decided to just give myself $8.00 for last week and for the next two weeks (we just paid ourselves this past Friday). The memories were well worth it.
I noticed something this week with the husband... he is not spending money as freely. I think that secret stash must be dwindling.....
The hardest thing this week:
I went to Meijer's the first of the week and realized half of our grocery money was gone in just that trip alone. Wasn't even enough to sneeze at! Everything turned out great though when we realized we had more money than we realized.
