I'm still picking tomatoes in the garden. We picked a bushel and half last night. I used a half bushel and tried a new recipe for tomato jam. So far I like it! It kind of reminds me of when we used to make sweetened macaroni and tomatoes as a kid. I have visions of this going on my BLT's this winter when I'm not able to find a decent tasting tomato anywhere.
We stopped at a roadside market and bought corn for 8 for $1.00. I also got 6 ears of corn for free from a local farmer for being on their email list. You can see how I freeze corn here.
I remade my childhood chalkboard for my grandchildren. Total cost: $6.00
I bought a gift card for something that we will use any way at Kroger for 4x the fuel rewards. I also did their survey on the receipt for more fuel rewards.
On a drive we found a table in front of a house with free vegetables on it. We were able to get two eggplants and a small bag full of tommy toe tomatoes. Such thoughtful people!
A friend gave me a couple of bags of peaches. We have been enjoying eating them and I also gave some to my daughter. (What a sweet sweet friend!).
I made up some breakfast meals for me ahead of time for next week. I will be busy babysitting grandchildren more and need something quick. I made up oatmeal packets and waffles. Note to self: next time make sure to hide the waffles!
What ways have you saved money this week?
