My Frugal Ways this Past Week 6/2/19!

Here are the ways we've saved this past week:

We went to an estate sale and went the wrong way out of the neighborhood when we came out(no outlet). We started looking at the pretty homes and then realized how much everyone was throwing away.  We were trash pickers that day!  We found two working fans, a casserole dish that was new in the box  (with some no expiration coupons for campbells products inside), apple pie platter, a little harp, and a working car jack. All things we will use for free.  We were so excited!

Yesterday I went with the grand kids to our local historic village.   It was free day for the residents in our county.  Besides all the historic homes they have a little petting zoo, and many fun displays for the kids to participate in.  Great day!

I'm so thankful I planted this grow bag.  We have had many salads and made some great wilted lettuce with it.  I'll be picking more today.

We hope that it will be dry enough in the garden by Wednesday to plant.  We just never know for sure though. We actually had three thunderstorms hours apart yesterday.

I shopped the clearance at Rite Aid for food items and we stocked up on bacon this week.  You can see my savings here.

Yesterday was the first day of our power company's new summer rate from 2-7 p.m. Basically the rates are higher between 2 and 7 p.m.   We made sure to do all the wash and made dinner before 2.

My Goals for this Week:

Hopefully plant the garden (I'm going to plant some pots or order more grow bags if we don't).   I think this will take up most of my week.

What ice items to get for FREE. It just amazes what people throw away. That just seems so ungrateful. Good for you to rescue so much!
What a sweet day with the kids.
Have a good one.

They were hidden in the subdivision or I'm sure that the regular trash pickers would have gotten them first. We were amazed too at how much was going in the trash and the trash man was coming up the road too. Have a great day Cheryl.

We do ot have power rate fluctuations here and I find that odd. But if we did you can be sure I would be doing every thing I could during the lull hours.

Yes That's What we decided to do too. This is the first year they have implemented this. A definite rate hike.

I would be so excited too! What great finds.

My list...

-I finally used the Rib Crib gift card we received for Christmas.

-We also ate Cotton Patch for supper one day this week & used the $5 off $20 coupon. They gave us extra rolls. DH does not eat bread so I put them all away. I had a roll with breakfast two days in a row & dh ended up eating one when his bloods levels dropped really low while he was doing yard work. He was happy to have some yummy bread to enjoy & bring it back up.

-My garden club went on a group tour this past week to a local garden. We were given a $3 discount because our group was large.

-The club president packed a picnic lunch for us all to eat (we do this every spring). So many people cancelled she divided the leftover food among us so I brought home two sub sandwiches & had them for lunch the next two days.

-I'm still picking daily flower bouquets from my yard to enjoy & saving quite a bit by not buying.

-I bought some meat on clearance at Walmart neighborhood market.

-I potted up another container of flowers for my front porch area using plants already growing in the wild places around my yard.

-I cooked all our meals & lunches (except the two we ate out).

Vickie what a blessing it was that you went the wrong way from the estate sale and you found so many wonderful things free. I too am amazed at the good things people through out. The grandchildren look like they had a wonderful time at the historic village and good on you for picking up some sales on travel snacks :) .

Yesterday and today we have finally had some lovely steady rain which may go a long way to filling up our rainwater tanks. With the drought here any rain is a cause for celebration especially when our home runs predominantly on water from our rainwater tanks :) . The rain watered in our newly dug and filled 10 vegetable garden beds.

Our savings added up to $833.28 last week :).

In the kitchen -
- Cooked all meals and bread from scratch.

Finances and listings -
- Listed 12 items on a free listing promotion on eBay saving $19.80 on usual listing prices.
- We paid the monthly interest charged by the bank on our house mortgage as well as the usual fortnightly repayments. This will save us time and interest on our house mortgage.

Purchases -
- For the medical kit and advanced stocks we purchased 60 x 15ml ampules of sodium chloride using a bulk discount plus our 15% off pharmacy membership discount saving $24.85 on usual prices.
- We also purchased for the medical kit 40 surgical/dust masks on eBay for medical and gardening needs saving $35.20 on usual prices. Due to increasing dust storms we will wear these if there is dust storms outside as well as use them for any work that involves a lot of dust.
- DH with the garden money he earned purchased 5 L of two stroke oil saving $15.46 on buying other brands or smaller containers.
- purchased 2 x 3 pk of croissants on special saving $3 on usual prices.
- From another op shop we found we purchased for DH 2 x near new wool jackets with dry cleaning tags attached for $3 ea and a pair of work jeans $1 for garden work and myself a warm near new long dressing gown $2, a long near new wool jacket for $3, a cable knit cream cardigan $3 and a skirt for $2 for a total of $18. This saved $484.97 over purchasing them at new prices :). Oh and I have converted DH to enjoying going op shopping too.

House maintenance -
- We cleaned out our roof cavity ready for us to put in our wool insulation batts saving $250 over hiring a trades person to do it for us.

Hope everyone has a wonderful frugal week ahead :).

Vickie a lot of times you can find items on eBay far cheaper than in our local stores here anyway and most likely some of yours too. I am glad you are finding some bargains on eBay too. I usually wait for what I want to have a discount voucher code with it and save more that way too.

Have a fantastic week ahead :) .

I've bought a mailbox for my daughter for 1/4 of the price of Amazon and a porch light for a great price too. Not sure how to get a voucher code for a discount.

Hi Vickie and on eBay the items with discounts there is usually a green and yellow icon underneath the price and click or run your computer mouse over it or click on it it gives you a code to put in at checkout down the bottom by entering the code. It then applies the discount to your purchase.

I hope this helps.

Not sure if you have the same discount codes though in the United States but just look for them and see.

I found some discount codes on Google but so far not under the price. I'll be on the lookout next time I shop. Thanks Lorna!
