What's going on in the Kitchen

We started making our own half and half this past week.  We froze a couple of pints of store bought and that did not turn out well.  The butterfat separates and it's hard to mix back in when it is thawed. We still could have used it but it did not look like something I would want to drink.

This morning the crock pot is filled with soup beans and a ham bone.  We bought this ham at Christmas time and put it in the freezer.  The ham cost $8.88 on sale.   So far, I've made our regular dinner for Easter, Ham and cheese omelette's, and now beans.  I've also got bread making in the bread machine this morning.

I made up some powdered milk again.  Okay, no one will drink this stuff no matter what I do so I'm using it in recipes to help make our milk last longer.

How I'm getting my groceries this week:

My Farmers Market is taking orders for trunk pickup!   I got that hint from Jenny (thank you).  I made sure I was there when they started taking orders online and got everything I wanted.  Yipee.  I pick up Thursday.

Daughter is getting a Kroger Pick up order this week.  She ordered about two weeks ago.  I added on to her list and paid her the money I owed.

My Movie this week:

I watched Jumanji this past weekend.  I watched half with my daughter and I'll watch the other half today.  It was good but I think it's a movie to be enjoyed with others.  There was some mild cussing that I didn't like but's it's not too scary.  It's an okay movie.
Jumanji: The Next Level
Jumanji The Next Level-$5.99 on Amazon to rent.  I heard from my sister that Showtime has it free 😒

Please leave a comment and let me know how it's going in your neck of the woods.

If you have any frozen milk or half & half left...I've found the key is to vigoursly shake it before using. It is hard to mix it together well. I've never frozen half & half but we've been able to keep milk this way. I would try putting it in a blender or mixing it with a mixer to try to incorporate the fat back in too.

I also try to use powdered milk in cooking to make the fresh milk last longer. Another thought is to mix 1/2 powdered milk with 2/3 regular milk...make up one glass & let everyone at least try it. It might work on cereal. Though when I did this I just didn't tell anyone what I was doing. Other things you could do if you can get it...keep milk syrups (chocolate, strawberry, banana, ect) & add that to the powdered or thawed frozen milk to make it more bearable to drink.

I'm so glad your farmer's market is doing pick up! I got a few plants last week but it's still too cold to plant out so I may skip this week.

We've been able to get our grocery pick up within a day or two up until this week...now it's a weeks wait. So I'm apprehensive we may be waiting much longer. My daughter-in-law & I have been taking turns doing pick ups & we pick up for each other. She is filling out an order today to be picked up next week even though I just got one this past weekend...& we'll guess what we'll need to buy by then.

We freeze milk but we had never tried freezing half and half. I can't wait till We get new from the pickup order on Friday but the substitute he real good.
Jenny so glad you got plants! We are going to need big gardens this year I think.we are still a month and a half away from planting our regular plants here in Michigan. so too early for us too. It actually snowed today! Brr!

Have a great day!

Thanks for the review on jumanji. We watched hop this weekend, and it was sort of cute. I liked onward too.
I've been doing Kroger pickup for the past 3 weeks, and the specials are usually out of stock, but I'm just thankful not to have to shop. I'm resigned to spending more on groceries right now.
Hope you get everything you need in your order.
