Frugal Friday, A Great Find, and Spring 3/18/22!

We went back to the estate sale the next day where we bought the cleaning supplies at last week and got many things for 1/2 off.  We bought this sewing cabinet for $25.00 and it was filled with needles, thread, and bobbins. I was in dire need of a new one. It even has a lift to put the machine up and down when I want to.   I spent a couple of days happily organizing.

I've made Sunday's my sewing day.  Sometimes it's just a few minutes but sometimes I have a hour or so. I'm trying to remember to make time for pleasures in life and sometimes I have to schedule it! So, I sew, no matter what the house looks like.  I'll get that quilt done soon!

With seventy degree weather we were able to turn off the heat for a few days and one night.  Yesterday, we opened up windows. let the fresh breeze blow in, and the cabbage smell out.  We also went outside a lot and made sure that every muscle hurt working before we came back inside.  Felt good, well kind of.

I planted mustard greens in the raised beds.  I'm beginning to love the raised beds because there is no way we can plant anything in the large garden till it dries out.

The forecast for the day is rain and I'm glad.  Yep, not that we need rain but now my focus will be back on the inside.  There is always a lot of inside work and if you do it right, it doesn't hurt as bad.

We all went to a maple syrup tour at a local park and listened to a story from a native American Indian and a French fur trader.  Such great history lessons for the grandkids.  You know without the native Americans there wouldn't be maple syrup.  We ate pancakes and sausage for breakfast with drink for $6.00 a person.  It was very good and a great price.

Flash food App  finds:  Chocolate chip cookie mix ($1.25 each), and salad mix (.69 each).   Referral code for $5.00 off your first purchase of more than $10.00  VICK26PZH (I'll also get $5.00 off my next purchase).

What are the ways you saved this past week?

My grand-ma used to say if you sewed on Sunday, you had to take the stiches out with your nose on Monday. I never had to test that since I couldn't sew a straight line if my life depended on it. Ann

Ha ha...maybe I better switch to Saturday then. One lady in my craft group on Facebook asked was it wrong to sew on Sunday. She must have heard something like that saying before. I'm not the greatest sewer believe me but it's a fun craft.

Sewing on any day is a good day. I have sewn on Sunday. Church friends chastised me. They went home and had beer while watching football games. The maple syrup outing sounds great.

Love that...it's a craft for me and not work so it's relaxing. Now if I had to sew all my clothes I guess it would be different.
It's good to get out of the house and in the woods now for sure.
It was also good to relive some history. Have a great week.

Vickie that was a super bargain your sewing cabinet and it looks to be in such good condition :). Lovely the drawers were filled with threads an bobbins too and fantastic it went to a home where it will be loved and used.

Lovely you were able to get out into the gardens and do some work and the weather warmed for a while so you could turn the heat off to save electricity.

Our savings for last week added up to $91.78.

In the kitchen-
- Cooked 4 loaves of wholemeal/white bread in the bread making machines saving $13.96 over buying them locally.
- Cooked all meals from scratch.
- Finally found 12 tins of smoked oysters at reasonable prices in the supermarkets to top the pantry back up with.

Finances -
- Paid an extra part payment off our mortgage and deposited more funds into our emergency fund.

Purchases -
- By putting in an online grocery order online and buying items on specials, using a promo code and using our 4% off e-gift card we were able to save $56.84 on usual prices.
- From IGA we purchased 3kg beef sausages for $6kg and a 600ml of Norco thickened cream marked down to $1 saving $6.76 on prices elsewhere.
- By using our 4% off gift card and buying san remo pasta and sauces on sale for $2 ea from Woolworths we were able to save $14.22 on usual prices.

In the gardens -
- Again I finally found some turnip seeds I have been chasing to buy for the gardens online and purchased a few packs.
- DH dug out, weeded and amended one garden bed with vegetable scraps from the kitchen, dried leaves raked from the yard and shredded corn plant stalks.
- I pruned a large lilac and a star jasmine hedges on the sides and front. Still another side on each to do and then pruning the tops of both.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead :).

Hi Lorna, What great savings by ordering online! We are like you and have to shop different stores to get the savings. Today we are back at Aldi's.
I'm glad you found your turnip seeds..I love the greens and turnips are pretty good too.
Have a wonderful week too Lorna!
