I Have Crackers do you have Noodles or White Lilly Flour? The Menu plan for 3/15/22


So, I have crackers do you have noodles or White Lilly Flour?  If you do, wanna trade?  I've looked everywhere for White Lilly self- rising flour but alas, there is none to be found in my area.  The supply chain for that flour, this far north, has probably been broken.  So, I just got the brand they had available and considered myself lucky I could get that one.

My daughter is also informing she can't find noodles for her chicken noodle soup.  She asked if I had some, of course I did!   Now, I haven't looked in all the stores around me but I'm sure they can be found somewhere but with gas prices high and other things going on, I'm thinking that now is not the time to go looking.  It may be time to make my own.  Vickie's home made noodles.  I can do this!   I mean people are making crackers right?

Our Menu this Week:

Monday            Chili cheese dogs and some potato chips that we had stored in the car for the grandkids after school (Husband was happy and said sometimes you just need comfort food)

Tuesday           Beef Stew (made like hamburger stew)

Wednesday       Polish kiebaska /sauerkraut/cornbread

Thursday          St.  Patrick's day dinner -corned beef and cabbage, mashed potatoes

Friday               Reuben sandwiches

Saturday           Steak and onion subs (it may be put on bread if we can't find the buns)

Sunday            Turkey (frozen from last sale at Thanksgiving), mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans        

***Note to self:  Wednesday get out Turkey from the freezer for Sunday's dinner

Breakfasts:  eggs, waffles, and oats

Lunch, you are on your own.

According to how much energy and time I have this menu could change at any time (sometimes it's much to the delight of my husband). Looks good though doesn't it?

I placed a Walmart order for what I could not find and made sure I had $35 so the shipping would be free. I got White Lily flour so maybe you could get it there.

Noodles and crackers are both so easy. I have never been name conscience on flour. I have tried them all and none seems any different to me. I buy what I can get.
Tough times calls for us to get creative!

You know I seen it on the walmart site but I went in thinking it would be there too. I'm going to try that Lana and see if I get it! thanks!

Yes we just have to make do that's for sure. White Lilly is the best flour but we will make it if I can't get it.
The biscuits were not too bad.

Once a White Lily fan always a White Lily fan! There is no substitute! But, I don't buy Gold Medal flour because of the malted barley flour in it. It gives me a headache when it is baking and a stomach ache after I eat it.

I always wondered how my MIL made such delicious biscuits then I found out it was the White Lily. There is no other.

Pasta and noodles spaces were mostly empty when I shopped. My friend says she cannot find crackers anywhere. Luckily, I stocked up on pasta and noodles last year! We eat little pasta and noodles, but I don't have the energy to search. I use Gold Medal flour and never noticed anything untoward. Of course, I am allergic to wheat, so maybe I could not tell the difference.

The aisles for those are mostly empty here but so far we are finding crackers at ALdi's. I think I'm wore out by searching ..like you the energy anymore is not there. I think I even have a pasta machine in the storage somewhere. Nothing wrong with Gold Medal flour though but with White Lily is a noticeable difference.

Vickie I feel for you and hope you find your favourite flour and your daughter noodles shortly and you mention a good point in trading with others too that may be in your neighbourhood :) . You may have a neighbour that has the flour and might want your noodles as they can't get any.

We are seeing the same thing here in Australia where certain products are vanishing off the shelves and we can't get them at the moment either. The products change that aren't available first it was cheese but it came back again a month or so later, then tinned beans and they are back again but in smaller quantities, then plain flour and now we can't get tinned pears, two fruits and full cream powdered milk.

Think we have to work with what we can get hold of at any given time. I sort of celebrate and do a little yahoo to myself if I see something that comes back into stock and buy what we need then and there :).

Having a stockpile, even a small one, helps when you find these products out of stock we find.

You explained it so well Lorna...it's a come and go inventory. Sounds like everywhere. I'm with you and I will stock up on White Lilly flour when I see it and probably holler yahoo! In the meantime I'm just grateful I found Gold Medal self rising.
Our day old bakery stores are closing here and I can see why. They don't have enough to go on the store shelves so they don't have any extra goods that don't sell. I loved going there for bread (it was still very good).

Vickie yes would pay you to stock up on the white lilly flour when you see it :). Store in a food grade bucket with lid with a couple of dry bay leaves which kills the weevils and eggs.

That is sad that your day old bakery stores are closing because they can't get the stock and I imagine the bread was cheaper than the stores as well. If you can get your hands on a bread making machine that is the way to go and make your own :) .

If you choose to do that I can give you some good recipes I have made up for white and wholemeal and white loaves made with both plain or self raising flours.

Lorna, thankyou! I will definitely store the flour just like you said when I find some. Maybe when we get a chance to see his Mom in Kentucky we can get some and I'll be able to have some in storage.

We do mostly low carb bread but we are cheaters and have regular biscuits here and there. If we didn't do that I think we would just go crazy LOL. I wish I knew how to make that low carb bread, it's the best we ever tasted.

Thanks for the offer of recipes..if this keeps going I will have to start making some for my youngest daughter who lives with us. Maybe I better start looking for a bread machine.
