This time of year it's all about the beauty of the harvest. My zinnias are blooming so pretty and my giant marigolds are everywhere.
We had quite the rain last night with a tornado warning as well. I would call the rain we got two or three cloud bursts. The news said in a nearby town that there was a tornado sighting. We will hear more later today on the news. I went out to check on the garden and the chickens after the storm. Everything is looking good but I noticed the lettuce all bunched up in the corner of our raised bed. Things happen. Since it had rained I took the time to seperate the bunch and weed a little. Of course now I need to wash my house coat LOL.Looking a lot better.
Everywhere there are beans! Probably by Monday we will get started picking. I also planted more mustard and turnip greens for the Fall garden.
I picked ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini this past week. I made zoodles for one meal to go along with seasoned steak tips.
I bought, among other things, two big bags of mulch for $2.00 a piece at a estate sale. I put them in the wheelbarrow for another day and the wheel barrow is full of water. Time to get dressed.What ways have you saved this past week?

Your zinnias are beautiful, Vickie. And oh my gosh look at all those green beans! So neat! We’ve had storms recently too and it adds to the humidity rather than cooling it off any. I hope you have a terrific weekend.
Belinda, it started raining again and just like you guys the humdidity is here again. It's not hot though here -it was in the 60's this morning.
It's been a weird summer for sure hasn't it?

I love your flowers! I wish I could have a flower garden. And, the beans look scrumptious. Everything is bearing up in the heat. I am not sure where you live. But, it is hot all over, I suppose.

Thanks Parsimony, No it's not hot here in Michigan. We will be in the 70's today. It kind of feels like fall. Humidity can be bad at times but it's really no problem.

My zinnias hadn't started to bloom when we left a week ago so I am hoping they look beautiful like yours when we get home in a week! Our beans were just huge plants when we left and not a bean in sight so you have made me hopeful on those as well.
We went to the lake me and only thrift store that we shop at because they are still reasonably priced. We found an amazing number of items that we needed. But, the best was a 1981 edition of the red plaid Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. My copy is just a pile of pages with a rubber band around it. I have been hoping to find a replacement for years since I use it so much. Best $1 I have spent in a long time!
We also went the local farmer's Market yesterday and here you really get what was grown in backyards. It is fun to talk to the people who grew what we were buying. A large fragrant cantaloupe, 2 lg tomatoes, 2 ears of corn, a gallon bag of leaf lettuce and a dozen eggs for $10.50.

Lana, I hope you get loads of beans! You know Better homes and garden cookbooks I think are a must have in the kitchen. All the recipes I love are in there. So good. I'm glad you found one for $1.00, what a deal!
So much of our produce comes from other places at our farmers market. I would love to go to a market like that -and the prices were great for you too! We went into Canada yesterday and I'm very thankful for our garden produce and we didn't have to buy anything. Their prices are very high, even with the exchange rate.
